Filename: levels/doom2/p-r/run4ever.zip
Size: 299.69 KB
Date: 12/31/96
Author: Michael Krause
Description: 1 level WAD.

I use a P120 machine, so I imagine some areas may run slowly on a underpowered machine.
Credits: ID for DOOM2. Ben Morris for DCK. Special thanks to Massimo Ciano for the great sound conversion from Quake to DOOM 2. Please check out his great WAD "castleof.wad".
Base: New level from scratch.
Build time: 5 hours, ...? no that's a joke
Editor(s) used: DCK v2.2 by Ben Morris.
Bugs: Small texture misalignments here and there, but not really noticable unless you look for them.

Another classic by this author, the gameplay really shines when using -fast, there's lots of hitscanners and the ammo is -just- right. Suspenseful crate maze ftw. 4*x

This is a medium-sized level with about 250 mostly weak monsters and lots of sounds from Quake. It's dull and bland; the layout is blocky and samey, with corridors aligned in a grid pattern, and the monsters are placed routinely, behind every corner. Once you grab the super shotgun the level becomes almost like a chore. Everything is dank-looking and the architecture is simple, but then again it is ten years old. It's not awful or offensive, just dull.x

This map is quite well done. It's looking good and gameplay is tight. You're confronted with weak to hard monsters while you're limited to weaker weapons only, plus there's no armor in this map. In some areas, I literally saved the game after every kill, because there were monsters waiting around every corner. The only problem is, because of the limited choice of weapons, the gameplay tends to become monotonous a bit after a while, since this is a quite large map. 3.5/5 -Milianx

This is a lot of fun, although a bit frustrating in a couple of areas.x
