Review - Michael
Icon 2, despite being difficult to complete, which I suppose is expected in an end level, is I must admit a rathered detailed level. Inspired by the original end level in Doom2, the author has improved it and made a far better level. It not only features higher level detail, but it also implements new larvae graphics and utilises the water effect from the boom engine. No doubt a quick swim in the larvae can be a painful and often fatal experience. Wandering from the usual tradition of making end levels really short, the author has actually gone to the trouble of turning Icon2 into a mini level, utilising the keys and spreading all the weapons throughout the level, instead of giving them to you all at once near the start. Of course like everything in life, there is a major catch to this. Since the level requires you to gather keycards, open doors and press buttons, their is more than enough time available for the boss head to generate monsters. Added to this, is the fact that there are monsters already on the map when you start, makes the gameplay experience a real nightmare. Health is also more than difficult to find, especially when you have a half a dozen monsters constantly wanting to kill you. Of course, this really can't be fully blamed on the author, as the boss head's actions can't really be controlled unless you know how and where to alter the source code. My only advice for people playing this level is, move fast, save often and don't bother killing any of the monsters unless you absolutely have to. If this still isn't easier enough for you, then just play on an easier difficulty level and hope that not too many of the tougher monsters are conjured up.

Highs : Highly detailed areas (see pictures). A unique map for an end level. Nice larvae textures.
Lows : Not enough health, considering the amount of monsters you meet. Not a very good stand alone level, but instead would have been better off as an end level in a series.

Overall: 6.5/10
