| TC's
come and go, most of them leave a small ripple in the giant variety
we have to choose from. We all know it started with aliens being the first organized TC to hit, but now after 5 years a new TC has come along and I can tell you right now, it's the best TC I have played in a very, very long time. It's the Batman TC by Ace team software, with all new sounds, graphics, enemys, music, weapons, and levels. The levels are the most innovative I have seen useing the doom engine, each one following a specific plot that keeps you playing for hours on end, well for me at least. There are some mind boggling special FX using only dehacked and the original doom engine, like waving flags, exploding walls, subway ect. ect. I don't want to spoil it for you, you'll have to see it for yourself. They put a lot of realism and detail into the levels, eg. in level 16, the cornfields, there is a long road and about halfway down you start to see skidmarks then at the end a turned tractor trailer. The enemys, well they're a bit tall, but they do look very cool, like if DC comics made and licenced the game. The rest of the sprites are great. With the bat-mobile, chairs, tables, barricades, a stuffed dinosaur (don't ask me, there is a lot of wierd stuff in the batcave). The new weapons are nothing like the doom weapons, the pistol, which is replaced by razor disks, can be still usefull after you get new weapons, I'd rather have the smoke bombs any day over the first weapon though. Playability, It plays like a side scroller, the story plays a large part with it. The levels are chapters with a boss monster at the end, sometimes the scarecrow will appear for a quick second in one of his middle levels and hurl a flaming green thing at you then he's gone. So it's really not just one of those "if you see it kill it until you reach the end of the game", it keeps you on your feet. So this is definitely a worthy DL, it may be big, but trust me, it is a very cool TC. It's up there with Aliens. If only the enemys were a little bit more preportioned and not 10 feet tall - It kind of makes you feel like a midget wrestler with a cape :-) |
