RuinDM is a small introduction to Kristian Aro's Brotherhood of Ruin TC, intended to offer a little preview of what is in store when the 12-level TC is released. And I have to say that if this is just a little preview, you can expect to be completely blown away by the full game. The first thing you'll notice about the map is it's environment; the way it sucks you in, you feel like you're really running around these old ruins. I can imagine exactly what this place would be like in real life. The variety of scenes is perfect, as is the detailing in each one: nothing is ever underdetailed or overdetailed, and the mix of texture detail and structural detail is about as close to perfect as you can get with Doom. The layout of the level can not be improved upon. This map has just the right amount of open spaces, outdoor scenes, hallways, crevices, stairways, pools, and so on. The weaponry and powerups are very well placed and excellently balanced. Aside from providing the perfect deathmatch game, this map is also the most fun I have had just plain wandering around and getting submerged in any game map for at least half a year.
