Nova 10 sounds like a space station or planet to me, but you'll find none of that in
Brian Lester's Doom level. It's a single player map, allocated to level 30 if you're
wondering why it won't load...
Nova 10 doesn't seem to actually have a theme. You start out in a tech base style area
but then it progresses into more wood/library areas, and finally marble. Don't worry,
I'm not sure exactly how they all fit in together either. Since it's a first map,
experimenting with textures is kind of expected I suppose.
The layout of the level is mainly tight corridors and square rooms, but it's definitely
no Wolfenstein! The puzzles are very straightforward, involving the usual button pressing
fare we're all used to, but the secrets are well concealed if you're going for full stats.
On Ultra Violence you'd probably want to save your game a lot since it's quite challenging.
Sometimes the corridors are useful, other times you tend to get trapped with no where to
strafe... if you want to relax and waste ammo, stay away from Ultra Violence.
Lighting was not overlooked, but this can be worked on in Brian's future levels. He has the
basics covered quite nicely though. Architecture is pretty straightforward, with a reliance
on textures to cover this up. But, impressive for a first level nevertheless.
There isn't anything particularly exciting to mention about Nova 10, as it's your
basic vanilla Doom level. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. It'll definitely
give you a few scares and test your wits on the higher skill settings, making it well
worth a try. Get some sleep Brian and stop annoying your dad!! :-)
