| After nearly
a week of playtesting, I finally finished all eight levels of the 'Axe'
series. Thing that annoyed me the most was the fact that all the levels
were saved as map01. This meant that I had to load each of the levels one
by one in order to play them. Anyway, upon playing them I at least found
out that
my efforts weren't all for nothing. I did enjoy 'some'of the levels. For instance I found that levels 4, 5 and 8 were pretty good, while levels 2 and 7 were average, being a bit too hard. Level 2 I thought was a bit boring and level 7 was just a bit too hard. In level 7 the ratio between ammo and monsters was quite imbalanced. I remember actually having to kill 2 revenants 2 hellknights, 6 cacodemons and about 20 other lesser monsters with just 20 or so shells and nothing else, not to mention that I was doing all this with about 30 percent health. And as a reward I got a medikit and some chaingun ammo left by a commando! What I encountered next I won't say. Levels 1, 3 and 6 were all pretty standard. Level 6 I recall was based in a large circular room 'full' of traps and monsters. Though at least the author did put in enough ammo, enough to actually do some over killing. On a more general point I found that nearly every level in this series had some major texture errors, which obviously the author had over looked. Incomplete light textures and a few 'gray4' walls were strong features in some of the levels. Also, all the levels are very lengthy with the exception of level 6, which is 'reasonably' short. If you're going to download this series I suggest that you play levels 4,5 and 8. Despite my critisms on some of these levels, I have to admit that I did enjoy playing them. Its was hard to ignore the fact, that some of the areas within the levels are quite brilliant. High : Good gameplay with some of the
levels. Nice thought out areas. Some pretty sneaky traps. Enough health
and ammo on most levels.
