Review - Sacha
Galaxia is a single level wad, designed by Roger Ritenour. I don't think I have ever seen one single level wad with as many new textures as this one. There are probably as many new textures in this one level, as there are in some megawads that have been released. However, it is gameplay that most doomers are after, and sadly, this is where this wad is let down.

Firstly, it has to be said that the sheer number and quality of added graphics make this level a sight to behold. The level is designed in the form of a giant space cruiser and the new textures have been used to great effect to make you feel like as if you are actually in space. There are plenty of windows to look out, from which you can see the sky with a cool looking galaxy in the
background. There are new doors, which fit in well, and also a really cool texture that resembles the bars of a futuristic jail cell.  The textures are also all in their proper positions and I didn't manage to spot any that were misaligned.

The design of the level is spot on with its intended purpose (ie - a space cruiser), and as you are running around this is what it actually seems like. Running around is the operative word here, as there is plenty of it to do. For a level of this size and complexity there are relatively few monsters, which is a bit of a let down. The action is spartan to say the least, and you can usually get away with running past the majority of monsters. However, the author has added the neat feature of having random monsters in different positions each time you play the level. I don't know how he manages it, but it works !!

The difficulty settings are fully implemented, which means that each setting is just that bit more difficult than the last. According to the author, the level can be finished on "Hey, not too rough" without finding any of the secrets. UV offers more of a challenge, but should still be completable by even semi-competent players. Those doom "Grand Masters" out there, should
find this level relatively easy and will have more than enough time to stop and admire some of the artwork.

All in all, this level is pretty good. If you are a Doom "newbie" then you will appreciate the easier difficulty levels that have been implemented. If you are at all interested at designing or creating your own textures, then this level is a must for you. Not only will it show you how good textures can be created, but it also shows how to use them appropriately to create a very atmospheric level. Overall, this is worth the download, just to sneak a peak at the artwork.
    Overall: 8/10
