Review - Sacha
Earthbase 3 by David Gevert is quite an entertaining level with very few flaws. According to the author, there are "no texture misalignments" in the entire level. I thought that was pretty impressive...

This wad is designed to resemble a dark, abandoned military base. I don't know whether any army in the world has a military base this small (maybe the army who used to inhabit this base moved into a bigger one?), but it is a good attempt at this type of design. The dark part is certainly correct. There are numerous dark passages and rooms, which can make things rather difficult at times. While not being pitch black, the rooms are just dark enough to give a sort of eerie feeling. There are, however, some pretty good lighting effects, which add to the atmosphere of the level.

As I have mentioned before, the author claims that there isn't one misaligned texture in the level. After playing this level, I would have to agree with his statement. I certainly couldn't spot any (maybe it was too dark :). However, some of the texture choices seems a little strange at times. There are certain places where some textures look a little out of place and don't quite seem to gel. Thankfully, these instances are rare. However, I did find the ending to the level rather drab, considering what you have to go through to get there.

Difficulty settings have been implemented, although not exceptionally well. While the number of monsters have been changed for each difficulty setting, the strength of the monsters has not. For instance, even on the easiest difficulty there are still 2 archviles and a few barons. There are also a few instances of bad monster placement (ie - putting monsters where they can't move). On UV, however, this level should provide a more than adaquate challenge for those "bad ass" doomers out there.

Overall, while not being the greatest level out there, Earthbase 3 is certainly far from the worst. It should be able to be completed in about 15 minutes by most people (maybe even less on the easier difficulty levels), while still providing an adequate challenge for the most hardened doomers. The fact that there are no misalignments also count in its favour. So, there you have it. Download this wad and, after you've finished it, you can try to search for any misaligned textures !!

Overall: 7/10
