here's a set of levels that caught my attention. I don't usually
like puzzle orientated wads but I thought I'd give this one a go and I'm
glad I did.
This is an 11 level megawad for doom2 with demos for all levels included in case, like me, you get stuck. Actually the puzzles weren't that difficult to solve except for one level, level 5, where I could neither find the blue key or the exit. I couldn't find the exit with my editor either? My initial impressions were not good. Aside from the occasional bug, I was also distracted by some very sloppy texture work which, at times, was quite painful to the eye. Most unforgiveable of all was the lack of skill settings (although it really wasn't too tough). In spite of all this, I found myself growing to like these maps enormously. What particularly impressed me was the design. Many of the fight sequences seemed to me to be very well thought out and required the player to demonstrate an element of strategy which is something you don't often see in doom. The maps themselves were medium sized and very diversified. Overall, a challenging but enjoyable wad with some novel ideas. Shame about the textures but well worth downloading anyway! |
