| These
three levels are smallish, doom1 maps made very much in the style of the
original game. The map designs are superb and prove convincly that
you don't need to fill every room with half a dozen barons to produce good
gameplay. I honestly didn't notice the missing doom2 monsters - I
was having such a blast! The pick of the bunch was the 2nd level
- one of the best maps I've played for some time.
The aesthetic of these levels is pleasing to the eye and conjures up that magical doom atmosphere that we've all become so hooked on. Doom gods may find these levels a bit too easy but for the vast majority of doomers the skill settings are absolutely spot on. Health, ammo and weapons are all balanced perfectly. I recommend these maps as an essential download. Mappers should also take note for a lesson in how doom maps SHOULD be made. I thoroughly enjoyed playing them and not a cyberdemon in sight! |
