Night is a four level wad by Robert Berkowitz.
The levels are above average, but lack detail and punch.
In the first level you start outside a grand temple like building, without a monster in sight. Once entering the building and facing the monsters it's simply a matter of pressing all the switches, so that you can exit the building and finish the level. However, there is a rather large bug where you can exit the level from the very start - but only becomes apparent once you have already finished the level so I won't spoil it. Level 2 has a dissapointing start room, but the level detail and quality increases as you descend into a dark and underground area (easily the best part of the 4 level series). The main feature of level 3 is a long and deep canyon - trust those dumb doom monsters to get trapped in there :-) There is also a neat 3D Bridge (see screenshot) which must be crossed. At first glance the last level looks like it might have only been made of 5 or 6 sectors, but it actually has 23. From that you can assume it's fairly simple, but it is still effective. One dissapointment was that the levels lacked continuity - that is, one level just jumped to the next, rather than smoothly carrying on a central theme. Although, this did allow the author to vary the texture use and keep the theme fresh. Difficulty levels have been fully implented, so you should be able to find one to meet your needs. On UV the levels are quite a challenge and I would advise those who bother to save, to do it often. Not a bad four level series, but not the best either. |
