the corrupt priest - jon washburn

Now I've FINALLY gotten around to reviewing this level,
(it's been over a month since I received it!!) I have much to say.
The map is the sequel to "Sacrifice in Blood", the much-hailed
(by me anyway) map with very very large scale in it, review here.
Well, first about the construction. The construction is similar to
"Sacrifice in Blood" but different enough to qualify as a continuation.
The map is well built; it is constructed in the manner of islands in
the sky connected by teleporters. Unfortunately, the sectors where
the sky meets the horizon have rather a lot of HOM on them. This
is due partly to the engine going haywire in those sorts of areas.
Well, the gameplay in the map is far better than 'Sacrifice In Blood' --
there are lots of monsters but at least you have weapons and ammo to take
them out, now! This is quite a drastic improvement. At times it can get
a little close in combat, but that just makes it all the more exciting.
Kill! Kill! Slaughter! And kill some more! (TV chef Emeril and his
yelling 'BOOM!' whenever he cracks an egg just isn't the same. ;-)
And BTW, I heard about this from the TV column in the 'paper, it's not
like I can get American TV over here in England without ruddy Sky.

No bugs, except for the HOM on the horizon.
This is a fantastic looking level -- it is rare to find a gothic/temple
styled map that looks this great. The visual schemes are very pleasing to
the eye, as the texturing has been done fantastically and the choices of
motif are pretty fantastic. I mean, just look at those shots and tell
me I'm wrong... ;-)
Thing placement has been well done, especially as far as ammo/health goes.

verdict
Pros: Nicely made gothic-styled map with a lot of play in it
Cons: A tad over-large and confusing
The continuation to 'Sacrifice in Blood' -- play it, it's just as
good, and then some! A great WAD.
