Welcome to the future it looks stony medieval but doors lowering in the floor are typical in the beginning of the fourth millennium. The first level not hindered by later conventions and being short is charming. Add the last five ones and you have a nice 6-level wad.
A very short and frenzy little arena that uses a pretty ominous track made by author of the map, perfect map for duel with 2 players. Searched for this for searching out if there's a darkages.wad around (for you know, Doom nect installation The Dark Ages). The BFG spam is maybe too much but it's a small charming wad.
Beautiful level design, I'd recommend this to anyone who hasn't played this yet. This megawad has cool new enemies and textures. You might be a little mad when chaingunners drop bullets instead, but just wait until you get the super chaingun and realize the max bullet capacity with a backpack is now 600. I personally wish the first episode lasted a little bit longer, the night sky and the trees are amazing. Episodes from best to worst in my opinion is 1,3,5,4,2. I consider these levels as slaughter maps. You might need to save scum if you aren't that good at doom. Also, the majority of the music in this wad slaps. This is probably one of my favorite megawads. Best 5 maps are 31: Cyberwar 7734, 30: Electric Nightmare, 06: Engineering Disaster, 15: Screams aren't a crime... Yet, and 18: Crush Depth. Better than ancient aliens in every way.
It's a good-looking map that requires some spatial thinking and makes some use of being "a ZDoom map." It did not have to be that, but it elected to (not surprising given its release date) but I'd rather wish it didn't, since the few times it actually comes up it feels jarring. And while the environment is memorable, and the references are well-crafted and not too on the nose, the combat is as often lackluster as it's enticing, only the outdoor arena towards the end is somewhat memorable.
Worth a play for sure, but not worth replaying once beaten.
