Yet another wad I've played before! Perhaps this time I can finally finish the whole thing... (mainly I'll be happy just beating an_mutt)

WOW, somebody sure is confident! I should inform you that this is also a mapset I have played - recently, in fact. This will be a fun conclusion to the Ironman Britbowl of 2016. Please join me tomorrow at 7PM GMT, everybody.

All demolished in 1:14:35

I decided to be aggressive and rush through maps deliberately to bring down the overall time, hence I take alot of risks and end up nearly dying on more then one occassion :D

Might want to put an asterisk next to my name as though I made this wad and tested it a thousand times.

Also nice job Bloodite Krypto!

Making my post here for my attempt when I get to it.

Will edit this one with what I've accomplished, actually might just combat jet lag and do it right now.

so i'm thinking of doing a run at this using GLBoom, but i'm a bit unsure how to do that. do i have to have the engine set at a specific compat setting to not disqualify my run? and what exactly do i have to do to make the engine run a demo with the specified wad file?

To record a demo:

glboom-plus.exe -file uacultra.wad -skill 4 -complevel 9 -record demo_name.lmp
To playback a demo:
glboom-plus.exe -file uacultra.wad -playdemo demo_name.lmp
Do a test recording just in case before you do the actual run.

Going off what rathori said, assuming your wad files and ports are in different folders, I would include full file paths.

C:\Doom\Prboom\glboom-plus.exe -iwad "C:\Doom\Wads\Iwads\DOOM2.WAD" -file "C:\Doom\Wads\Pwads\uacultra.wad" -skill 4 -complevel 9 -record "C:\Doom\Demos\demo_name.lmp"
You'll need to type that into "command prompt." You can find it in the start menu under accessories. Alternatively you can paste that into notepad, save as, change the "save as file type" from .txt text document to all files, and save it as record.bat. The .bat extension will turn the text file into batch file on your desktop which will act as a clickable shortcut which you can delete when your done, or right click to edit in notepad in case something isn't working.

Make sure when you include the full file paths for you wad files and demo .lmps, that you surround them in quotation marks. The file path for the source port detailed at the very beginning does not use quotation marks.

For future reference if a demo requires multiple wads, such as memento Mori and its music wad, you would just type space after the first file path and then add the second wad file path:

[... -file "C:\Doom\Wads\Pwads\mm.wad" "C:\Doom\Wads\Pwads\mmmus.wad" ...]

Or if there's a dehacked patch, you would include [-deh "C:\Doom\Wads\Pwads\av.deh"]

Died on map 10, Skagway, in about... an hour and forty or something? So, would have lost anyway but I'm still happy with it. Will edit this post with a link when it's done uploading, since I used GZDoom. Uh, I set the compat to strict, but I think map 7 broke anyway, the mancubus platforms didn't rise, so this demo's probably "illegal" :C Oh well.

Anyway, I've played through this several times in the past, as it's easily one of my favorite level sets ever. Definitely deserves the Cacoward it won!

Spoiler

Uninteresting fun facts, the music for Skagway was the music for map 1 of Ol' No Name for most of its development, and the music from map 5 (Hardware) was going to be used for 2 until I decided to make it (probably too) huge.

RIP DotW's chances of winning "most victories in 2016".

https://www.twitch.tv/johnsuitepee/v/104810966 = my attempt. (died on map 09)

My luck held out on several occasions. I managed to avoid being too bodyblocked on map 02, skillfully dealt with the double Vile ambush on map 03, evaded the Cacoswarm on map 05, 4%'d a Mancubus sandwich and managed to not panic on map 07..... (several other close calls happened)

And despite all of that, I get killed by a lone Revenant on some stairs. Shortly after telling somebody in the chat how to deal with them. One rocket, two rocket, dead. Cue much WTF.....

EDIT: Nope, map 09 wasn't enough alas. Guess it's 3-3 between me and an_mutt now...

Not to boast but I like the idea of the occasional well-known wad to keep the people who are cautious but good at staying alive from always winning.

"Cautious" isn't a word I'd use to describe DotW, but I don't think he's enough of a pure speedrunner to beat a speedrunner chancing a risky route. He's more of a stylish type than a fast, efficient type.

I got Skagged. Map 10! It was fun - and I feel like I played very consistently for once - but my panicky inability to handle large swarms of monsters got the better of me at the end. I was hoping to put in a complete run, but oh well.

Spoiler

May we Iron it out again soon, Suitepee.

OP updated. I love Fridays.

These are some mean runs. It will be interesting to see if Bloodite can hold out for an entire month. PjSpartacus came close, but it may take another out-of-the-blue contribution like his for the time to be bested: other than Dime, shock and couple others, there aren't too many doom gods that could give it a shake.

Sorry, I think I just called Dime a Doom god. My mistake - he's just a good speedrunner. 3 - 2 btw.

I can just see Krypto running away with every subsequent month, heh. It's cool to see all these little rivalries between players, it gives a level of interest beyond just who wins overall, which might be getting a tad predictable, haha.

On that note, 2016 finishes off with: Anima 4, Eris 2 x_x

Never played UAC Ultra, will probably die by taking aggressive strats. :)

You may suffer a similar fate as Ancalagon, but this is good for me:
I probably had less than a 5% chance of staying on the leaderboard, but seeing people play hasty gives me hope.

Also, i'm frustrated because i rewatched my demo and saw that i actually had 5 rockets that i didn't know i had. They would have saved life if I didn't make that stupid mistake, instead of floundering around as if i had no ammo. On the other hand, a part of me knows that stupid mistakes always occur at some rate anyways, and are just excuses for fucking up.

Survived 01:42:18

Yeesh, slow. I was pretty satisfied after I'd got past a certain point so I took my foot off the floor: no way I was getting near Bloodite and Pj, that much was obvious before I started. Should have died in a number of places, all the same... three, in particular. I was one inch away from being crushed a second time on the map04 platforming segment; took a full-on blast from a mancubus on map07 trying to squeeze past him and cashed in my lucky cheque with those RNG rolls... also I have no idea what the hell I was doing at the end of map10. The arachnotrons firing against the lip of the surrounding arena were so loud I couldn't hear whether the floor had finished lowering to reveal the exit atop the tower, so I stepped up out of my comfort zone to take a look and drank deeply from spider stream. Surprised the cyber didn't have a say in all that fuckuppery.

Reasonably familiar with the set: played it at least once before and saw an_mutt's stream almost in its entirety. Chose to miss out on some of the secrets for speed. Hah! Fat load of good that did me.
