Sega Saturn textures

Recommended Posts

They're the same as the PS1 version's textures; it's literally a direct port of that version with some minimal changes. (Mostly for the worse.)

I mean, theoretically it's possible they're different for technical reasons, but in practice, the textures should be 99% the same since the Saturn version really is a port of the PS1 version. (Right down to having LIGHTS lumps from the PS1 version... which is totally useless since the Saturn version doesn't do the colored lighting the PS1 version does.)

If you're just looking for the textures, Erick194 ripped and converted them directly from the PS1 game, and made PK3s of both it and Final Doom (which does have a few different textures). It's mostly intended for use with the customized DB2 fork that we're using for the PSX Master Edition project (that runs on actual PSX hardware), but you can still load the textures as raw PNGs for a map pack or whatever.

And if you're interested in the topic, here you go.

@Dark Pulse Just what I was looking for! Thanks.

No problem. Looking forward to the map you'll make with it that'll no doubt utterly destroy me. :)

There was this from a while back and the textures definitely look different:

The poster hasn't been on since 2018 however.

I once contacted the poster regarding the TC's status earlier this year. He said the PK3 got lost and the project has since been abandoned.

Yes, all of Saturn Doom's textures and resources are virtually identical to PSX Doom's textures. I checked the level files between the two discs in a hex editor a while back and there are no differences between them.

Perhaps the biggest visual difference between the two ports is that the Saturn renders at a larger vertical resolution versus the Playstation (352x240 vs. 256x240) meaning things look less squished on Saturn. Check out the doorway in E1M1 about a minute and half into this video to see what I mean.
