Try to recreate TNT from memory! (Community Project)(Closed)

Since the project is just doing it the way you remember it, I think there's nothing wrong with it being bland, especially if that was how you remembered that map. (Can't be any more cursed than the Doom 1 project that stuck a Cyberdemon in an episode 1 level!)

Going to go ahead and do the TNT Title music as well.

 

EDIT: Yeah, this one was really easy. Drums might not be 100%, but I think I even got the length right at the end. Tempo might be a little different, but it's close enough.

I'd like to do the intermission music as well since I already know the piano part (taught it to myself years ago), but I'll wait for confirmation before I start working on it.

This one wasn't so hard - I didn't get the strings right now that I'm comparing them, and my tempo's just a tiny bit off I think, but most people wouldn't notice. Everything else is surprisingly close. (Putting my experience teaching university aural skills classes to work.)

 

I won't grab any more music unless it gets close to the deadline and there are still some manageable ones that are unclaimed. I might grab a map here in a bit, we'll see!

I'm going to withdraw from this one. I don't remember enough to even do a really bad imitation. I did a quick run through and I don't understand the progression.

 

I don't think there's anything left in the list of unclaimed maps that I can do. Map11 was basically the only one left that I had some memory of.

Here's a WIP of MAP14, about 50% completed. Texturing is a bitch, and so far if I don't remember a certain detail, I try to give it as much personal flair as I can. Most accurate room by far are the two crusher rooms after the starting area, I'm proud of those!

I'll be honest, at first I couldn't understand the point nor the appeal in these recreation from memory projects. But now as I was contemplating, whether I should give it a try (even with a MAP32 that's super close to my heart) I realized it's nowehere, nowhere near as easy as it sounds. And I mean, as long as people provide their own twists, their own way, it can actually become something enjoyable.

I've been watching this thread for the past week or so & I think I'll dip my toes into this project :)

 

I'll take map 24 since its small simple map to recreate even though I vaguely remember it besides the outdoor section 🙃

MAP15 is coming along nicely, for a value of "nicely." I'm pretty sure I'm missing a fair number of those useless little "open up this door to get into this otherwise equally accessible alcove" secrets, but I've already used my allotted playthroughs of the map just focusing on that damn nukage room and some enemy placements, not to mention figuring out what all those dumb switches do.

 

It also doesn't look particularly pretty, but I think that adds to the charm. Do you know how hard it is getting circular sector shapes to overlap nicely even when you're not trying to do it from memory?

MAP15 is done.

 

I missed a few secrets, layout's a little wonky, light levels aren't always close to accurate, textures are wrong, monsters are in the wrong spot, the Deathmatch spawning areas are all weird and compressed... but it's a fully playable map made from memory. Not bad considering my first playthrough was just flipping switches over and over again until I figured out what they did, and my second playthrough was trying to figure out which enemies were multiplayer only (I couldn't remember, sadly).

ooh I like these wads. No one has taken deepest reaches yet? Remaking that map actually sounds like fun since its so... confusing in layout? can i reserve this actually lol I think I'm ready to rack my brain for one of these and screw it all up

@Engired Hey so, I'm sadly gonna have to quit the community project.

I haven't really been having that much fun, and I don't think I can have the time to finish recreating the map. Would appreciate it if you would remove me from the map05 slot.
