Doom 3 graphics aged better than half life 2

Have you played Doom 3 again with the Sikk Mod and neural network upscaled textures? Looks like a modern PS4-gen game. And the same mods do wonders for Quake 4 too.

I enjoy most all genres of music, especially jazz and fusion (my all time favorite band is Steely Dan). I also enjoy a lot of metal. Diatonic or not, if it sounds good it sounds good. Most music has chromatic passages; without those stray notes, music would be boring. Black American music specifically was a particularly interesting deviation from the rigidity of European classical music and shaped most of what the 20th century sounded like; hence the "blue" notes that wedge themselves between major scales. So obviously I'm invested in the whole gamut, not just diatonic phrasing.

I just happen to feel there are too many metal bands that try to break the rules without learning then first, or just plain lack ambition. Metal that I used to find corny, like Rob Zombie, Pantera and solo Ozzy, I now enjoy more because of how tight their compositions and performances are. But there's a lot of heavier stuff that now bores me because the guitarist just meaders in this radius around the first five frets, or arpegiates endlessly without direction. Vocalists afraid to test their range. Drummers with no groove that blast all day. Uninspired basslines that just follow the root notes of the guitarist. Sadly the oversaturation of the market mostly produces this kind of sound; and yet I still have a passion for metal.

Well said. Though I can't imagine anyone finding Ozzy or Pantera "corny," but who am I to judge? I've had my fair share of really stupid opinions when I first heard a famous band or album. (Not that I'm implying anything about you, opinions are just opinions after all).

I mean, songs like Crazy Train and Walk are pretty much peak metal corny in my opinion, even though I do like them.

I think Doom 3's lighting system helped it age fantastically. HL2 looks flatter in comparison.

Vol. 4 is the best Black Sabbath album

Doom 64 isn't a worthy Doom 3

i do not believe people really enjoy Rolling Stones

without Hanneman and Lombardo, Slayer is nothing

Blood is the best Build Engine game (maybe not unpopular, i just wanted to say that)

Team fortress 2 lore isnt even good

esoteric team fortress 2 lore time

the best part of team fortress 2 lore is:
directly influencing portions of counter strike map de_dust through screenshots alone. de_dust was added to counter strike beta 4 in 1999.

worst part of team fortress 2 lore is:

getting rid of grenades (no more concussion jumping) and sniper's ability to launch launch teammates to just get gibbed on impact with distant brushes resulting in -1 to their score.

Speaking about Doom 3, I personally prefer the gun sounds in final game as opposed to Trent Reznor's sounds of Doom 3 beta by a margin.

RE: Doom 3 vs Half-Life 2...

Doom 3 still looks impressive... for a game from 2004.

Half-Life 2's naturalistic lighting, meanwhile, still looks good even now. IMO it set the standard for what we should expect from video game lighting in a way that hadn't been done since the original Thief (which, coincidentally, was an influence on HL2! Marc Laidlaw has talked about how it's his favorite game, and Ravenholm is a very obvious take on Thief's Old Quarter.)

Pretty sure even doom 3 has low texture, the lightning and the shadow aged very well, also half life 2 graphics did age well but kinda mind, half life 2 graphics has been upgraded in 2007, pretty sure 2004 version has diferent graphics.

The engine got a slight upgrade, but the baked-in lighting has remained the same. There isn't a significant difference between an average scene in 2004 Source vs 2007 Source.

except sometimes it decides to default to fullbright because of messed up HDR-only lighting on some maps, which was added with the orange box update in 2010. high dynamic range lighting wasn't added to the source engine until like 2005, and wasn't avaliable on the steam release of hl2 until the 2010 orange box update iirc? might be because when they were compiling the maps back in 07, they were compiling them for the consoles, which would have defaulted to HDR always being on. at any rate, it brings it in line with doom 3, meaning it can't run on a geforce 2.

source (as in proof): the orange box update halved my framerate on my primary rig back then. from 60fps to 30fps on the lowest settings.

Also crysis is the worst pc optimization ever, Before they got say me you got a bad pc, Not its not, crysis has the worst optimization. They rather care graphics than optimizations, imo i dont understand why many people care crysis for graphics, Its dont like the videogame is fucking movie.

doom 3 deserve more popular than quake 4.

Bruh, Doom 3 might not be universally loved, but even the people that mention it only to meme on its shotgun don't even remember that Q4 exists.

Xenogears is pretentious and vapid, its gameplay terrible as well.

The chao garden should've been its own game.

Turok 1 is better than Turok 2.

Yoshi's Island is better than SMW1.

Fallout 2 is the equivalent of your partner hitting you and immediately apologizing half-assedly, only to hit you again for no reason (Fallout Tactics).

Garou: Mark of The Wolves is better than any version of Street Fighter 3.

SNL was never funny.

Most classic horror films did not need sequels.

Cornered - Pursuit 2001 is overrated, I don't care how hype it is, even at the end of T&T.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Justice For All's soundtrack is better than the first game's or even Trials & Tribulations.

The Tiktaalik made the worst decision imaginable when coming out of the soup.

Also quake 4 has more views than doom 3 in youtube. Especially the scene where he get turn into strogg.

Echoing this.

Also Turok is awesome

Doom3 is underrated especially for the graphics at the time, and deathmatch with friends is good shit too.

No it doesn't play that way.  It's much worse than that :P

Although on the subject of The Elder Scrolls:  The only good part about Oblivion was it's soundtrack, the rest is shit.

TMNT 2 on NES is only great if you don't have access to an arcade, or a port of the arcade version.  Or MAME, can't forget MAME.

Early 3D has aged extremely poorly, far worse than early 2D gaming.

Total Recall on NES is actually a good game.

Rygar on NES is still actually really good.  The original arcade game has been shit since day-one.

I think that's a good start.
