LadyMistDragon Posted July 11, 2022 (edited) Ok, while some of us wait for Pandora to get added to /idgames, Gibbon is actually now overseeing a sequel based on, you guessed it, Doom 64. "But Lady!" you cry. "Doom 64 never had a level editor!" "Oh", I say in reply. "That's just too bad. Because there should have been!" This is for those forgotten days when you'd trade maps with your friends as ways to frag the crap out of each other. This is for those days when you played a map made by some kid at school and you quit in disgust because the clown though one room stuffed with Barons was the most fun you could possibly have. This is for the days where a Doom 64 "community" simply did not exist. This is PANDORA 64! (Aubrey Hodges' title score plays) To claim a map, please join our discord at the following link and we'll get you sorted! https://discord.gg/zEFBqwBbCv And if you want to take a look at the guidelines before joining, read them below! How to get started mapping for it? 1. Get the N64 ROM (if you ever owned it in the past, then it is legal to do so) 2. Buy the Remaster from Nightdive 3. Get DoomBuilder64: https://github.com/thekovic/DoomBuilder64/releases 4.Make Awesome Shit! 5.You may need a source port. Pandora 64 will support 2 source ports. 1. Official Remaster 2. Mine (Gibbon) Doom 64 EX-Plus: https://github.com/atsb/Doom64EX-Plus/releases/tag/3.3.0 The Doom64 community on discord has pretty much all moved to EX-Plus from EX. So it is the new continuation of it. It may feel a little jank using DoomBuilder64 as it is based on the original DoomBuilder 2, so no snapping to positions automatically etc.. Deadline? Some point in January, the date hasn't quite been pinned down yet) Guidelines are pretty few but here goes 1. Only vanilla assets are allowed. This is intended to be a project comprised of custom maps that would have existed concurrent to the original Doom 64 release so we're trying to retain an authentic feel. 2. Make sure your map is finish able. It doesn't matter if you leave out doors or whatever or if you throw in 50 Barons and 25 Cyberdemons but you have to leave some maneuverability room to ensure anyone can complete it. 3. Don't worry too much about standards otherwise - this is a shovelware collection and as such, untextured secrets, stupid puzzles and cheap enemy placement are A-OK. Just make sure to follow guidelines 2 and there shouldn't be any problems! 4. No more than 3 2 maps (currently) per partcipant are allowed. This is to ensure that other people aren't scared off if they see lots of people claiming multiple spots. Nah, take as many as you want! 5. Custom skies are fine, and also, you can use up to 10 custom textures. Immorpher Posted July 12, 2022 Yes more Doom 64 stuff!! This is a guide for a previous project which may be helpful in getting people involved with Doom 64 mapping. It's a bit messy but we've been writing compatibility tips as we go along: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1h7bbxzU1xEHg2gSbi_GDlV1VOqTQpzfecNon5Q_wv5w/ I strongly recommend that people test with the Doom 64 Remaster (either Steam or GOG version) as they are building their maps. Its far easier to get Doom 64 Remaster maps working fine EX+ than visa-versa. Although Doom 64 has its own special MIDI set up, we've been chugging away and making custom MIDIs for it. Here's a bunch of custom MIDIs for you to use and I put MP3s so you can preview what they sound like. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/b96qzg6r4sow4uz/AAArv5qzvMQIQxLXEzAJr40Fa?dl=0 12 Share this post Link to post
sbw37 Posted July 12, 2022 just a quick question for you guys, are the new enemies that team gec has created going to be used as well? (if theyre willing to allow the community to use the assets) i think that would be totally awesome to have new enemies that the original d64 didnt have. and i possibly might have a taker for my map ideas (3). its not set in stone, but if so itll be exciting to see it be wielded into existence. if not, and yall are dead set on me doing it myself..i suppose i could try to learn the builder program. not to be negative though i just dont see myself learning and becoming an expert programmer by the time the deadline ends let alone achieve what i want to see happen with just the first two maps sadly...just being honest 0 Share this post Link to post

Mostly inspired by those from the first Pandora. Edited July 12, 2022 by LadyMistDragon 3 Share this post Link to post
KeaganDunn Posted July 12, 2022 About a year ago I tried diving into making Doom 64 maps, but the Doom Builder 2-esque interface definitely halted me from experimenting further. Will join the Discord server and hopefully try my hand at it again! With 12 months, anything can happen... 4 Share this post Link to post
Walter confetti Posted July 12, 2022 Good luck with the project, i remember some complicated stuff about ROMs to convert in wad format to be playable with the Doom64Ex port, this still need to be done with the newer plus version? 0 Share this post Link to post
AtomicFrog Posted July 12, 2022 Give me a map slot and I'll see if I can throw something together. 0 Share this post Link to post

AtomicFrog Posted July 12, 2022 Yeah sure. So these maps are to be played in succession I take it. I can make a half decent 3rd map if you like. Do you have a theme basis though? If the maps are not random themes then I take it a 3rd map will be Phobos themed? 0 Share this post Link to post

Dusty_Rhodes Posted July 12, 2022 Love seeing how far our little community - within - a - community has come. The club is going strong and we're getting a second cp. Love to see it everyone! 5 Share this post Link to post
LadyMistDragon Posted August 15, 2022 Just a little monthly bump to make sure if anyone else is still interested in the project! We still have 22 slots to fill! 2 Share this post Link to post
Immorpher Posted August 15, 2022 @United VirusX and I claim a collab on map 22. 1 Share this post Link to post
Dark Pulse Posted August 15, 2022 (edited) Pandora 64? The idea is definitely intriguing to me, and the deadline is far enough out that I'll happily join up on this one as well. Unsure about what map slot I'd like though. Probably one of the earlier ones, considering I actually love techbase themes. I'd say give me Slot 4 for now, since I like techbase (I know that this isn't attempting to follow the thematic progression of the original). It's flexible if need be, but I'd like to try to craft a map with a secret exit as well as a normal one. And I promise it won't be a maze map this time. I can't even do the same gag anyway due to lack of several very important monster types. :P If for some reason the slots don't fill up and I don't get too bored with the idea, I might even do a few more. EDIT: will there be fun and secret levels using the same map slot as Doom64 or will this be as Doom2 only 31 and 32 be secret maps? 1 Share this post Link to post
Amaguq Posted August 16, 2022 Wow! This is nice! A friend of mine told me about this, and besides I'm a total beginner about Doom mapping I would like to join in. May I ask a slot please? Map 08 or Map 07, any available. 1 Share this post Link to post
LadyMistDragon Posted August 16, 2022 @Nevander, @Gerardo194 @Chris194 and @Amaguq you're all being added as we speak! Congratulations! and Gerardo, I'll have to ask Gibbon about that stuff. I don't think he actually thought that far. 0 Share this post Link to post

LadyMistDragon Posted November 8, 2022 Ok, before the year ends, just one more bump before we're too occupied with the holidays to care. We still have around 10 slots available! I know @Endless, @Luleta, and @KeaganDunn were interested in this project. If there's anyone else who'd like a crack at this (and perhaps, literally) speak up! Although at this stage, let's try to keep this to no more than 2 per person, just in case someone else wants a slot. 3 Share this post Link to post
NaliSeed Posted November 8, 2022 I don't suppose this is compatible with Doom 64 CE. ☹️ 0 Share this post Link to post
NightFright Posted November 8, 2022 They said in the beginning, Remaster or EX Plus. CE would require a separate version. Maybe someone will make it once the project is released. 3 Share this post Link to post
