Very cool. This was my very first attempt at mapping, so thrilling to see it getting some love. This whole project was a great experience.

Cat 1

Dead on map 08 with 7/120 kills

Almost died on the first map because of the visual overload and having no idea what health kits looked like.

 

Maybe next year I'll manage a good run.

Hidden chaingunner pops out just as I fire at a revenant, catch a homing missile, miss the second shot, miss the cover.

 

I always do really poorly on these long map sets where nothing happens for 20 minutes and suddenly I have to actually react quickly.

You undersell yourself here. Mad run, this! A blind survival considering some of the nastier traps this set has is very impressive. Interesting that you closed the year the way you opened it - with a survival :^)

 

PS. I'll likely do my run tomorrow and update the boards accordingly when it drops. Hopefully it doesn't drop to the bottom. :^)

I do feel bad about the inescapable pit in my map tho lol - I never considered this ever being played in an ironman way - sorry @Anima Zero but your description sounds epic

Category 1 (Never opened, downloaded, seen or heard of this wad until a few days ago)

Demo for GZDoom 4.9

Time of death: 37:28

 

Decent run I guess, I mean 9/21 maps completed isn't so bad and I definitely think this run was better than last month's, I was pretty confident going into MAP10 but I got kinda hasty and got stuck on the red key switch and a conveniently placed Revenant decided it wanted to do like 60 damage on my ass... God I kinda hate them sometimes, lmao

 

The first 8 maps were not scary at all, MAP09 got me close to death a few times mainly out of my own clumsiness as the RNG happened to be very nice to me

So entering a fight with 200 health should mean you're good to go. That is, unless you decide to take a stroll on a 20 damage hurtfloor and notice the floor's hurting you (and not the revenants) too late. MAP10, category 2. Shame because I had MAP11 in my pocket...

 

Also, disclaimer: there is no secret exit in MAP15, MAPs 31 and 32 are bonus maps

Blind type 1.  I am not feeling chill after this dismal result.  Lost a punchout with a Hell knight on map 3.  This is looking like a last place finish. (again)  Maybe time to hang up the ammo belt and retire.

 

dsda-doom -complevel 2  Demo presented solely as evidence and is not suitable for watching by anyone.

Dead at Map09, Cat 01, UV, 40:00ish minutes in

Commentary (cat 1 spoilers):

Map 1 - threw me for a loop, spent a while figuring out my way around the visual clutter.

Map 2 - picked essentially the wrong side to go to, so it took a lot of extra time.

Map 3 - had to tyson a good chunk it due to missing chaingun and wasting ssg a lot prior to facilitate speed.

Map 4 - that room constantly throwing you out to the maze was ugh, I only spotted the arrow on the automap. Thank Santa for all the cells at the end though.

Map 5, 6, 7 - breather, that's all I got.

Map 8 - the real fatal decision of the run was made at the exit - I figured there'd just be a button and maybe some fodder to block it so I can go for it, which cost me dearly.

Map 9 - little health all around x hitscan x roamers made me slow down and tense up a lot, and then I goofed up by not figuring out the exit.

Map 10 - 30 HP at the start, followed by a tragic death to a 21+ imp roll in close quarters.

That visual clutter in map 1 is by design. It is a Xmas map after all!

Never would have thought people would try to speedrun or ironman this. 

 

So far, everyone survived map 1!

Still better than July's Vigor edition, where me dying in 18 seconds wasn't even the fastest death. That map set was a lovely killer, taking out seven of us before we even reached MAP02.

I would beg to differ. You're a staple of the League ever since the very first challenge and so far, even if it stays this way, this is only the first time you'll finish last this year. Plus, your median score is considerably higher this year than two years ago! Next year is always a fresh start and I believe your absence would be missed considering you were always consistently part of the League. Also, there might be a change in categories ;)

Category 1 demo. Made it to map19 in 3:34:55 where I fucked up a little bit and died. After poking around with iddqd on I can safely say it's actually a blessing in disguise.

No idea how I survived Map 03. But I did, and things were going fine until Map 09, when I equipped the wrong weapon for the fight and didn't think to switch until it was too late...

Fucked up the death slide, that's so embarrassing man... :(
I was kind of afraid I'd go out on a whimper this year since I didn't officially participate in the previous two months, but this is pretty decent I think. I think I probably would have died before this map if I didn't have faint memories from playtesting, they were particularly helpful in sectrslayr's map.

My life has kind of been in the gutter recently so this was a nice distraction for an hour or so. Good luck to everyone else. :)
