OTEX switch animations not working

Question

(Doom II - UDMF)

Excuse the nooby question, but my OTEX switches are not animating in game. They are working fine mechanically but not visually. I've copy / pasted the Animation and also the Switches lump in Slade. So I guess that's NOT what you are supposed to do? I'm really behind in the class when it comes to the technical side of wad creation.

Thanks for your help.

That should work fine; if the map is UDMF then it's a guarantee the port supports the anim lumps.

Perhaps double check that these SWITCHES and ANIMATED lumps are not inserted in map lumps or in the flat namespace or somewhere else where they will be ignored?

Thanks @Gez. I've tried a few things but can't seem to get it working.

The lumps aren't in a textures or flats folder or anything like that. I think somehow I'm not copying the Switches lump correctly.

Do I copy the animations onto a text file before i enter Slade, or maybe copy them while I'm in Slade?

Could you give me a step - by - step? I'd really appreciate that!

The SWITCHES and ANIMATED lumps provided by OTEX are in Boom's formats for such things; it's a binary format (derived directly from how this info was stored in the vanilla Doom executable), so they're not meant to be transformed to text. They should be copied as-is. SLADE should still identify them as "Boom Switches" and "Boom Animated" lumps.

Thanks for your help! I've tried that but it's not working in game somehow. Animations appear to be ok but not switches. Slade says the switches lump type is Boom Switches so I guess that's right. When I test my map (GZDoom) when I'm building in UDB, the switch animations are still not working. I don't get it. It's a direct copy / paste.  I'll keep messing around with it.

I don't know why it doesn't work for you; it worked for me in this ultra-simple quick test map:

Thank you @Gez for that example map! It really helped.

I tried it and then tried it with different textures. All the switch animations work fine so I can't figure out where I'm going wrong in my own wad. Hopefully I'll find out what's different after I compare them and mess around a bit. Cheers.

Was this ever resolved? Because I have the exact same problem (I think). I have all the elements contained within the example map, set up in the same order, but it does not work.

Map format: UDMF

Tools: UDB and Slade

Texture pack: OTEX

SWITCHES and ANIMATED have been copied over from the OTEX .wad wholesale.

I've attached a copy of my map. I've removed the sky textures and a few others to make it smaller, but the file size is still considerable - sorry about that. I just didn't want to mess around with it too much in case I give a false impression of what I am working on.

hello all, im not sure if this helps but i ran into this issue after UDB updated and seemingly reset my game configs.  Anyway, here is what fixed it for me, make sure to add otex to your game configs under resources:
