PUSS XXVII: PERPETUAL TORMENT [ Doom 2016 Speedmapping]

After playing PUSS IX's secret levels I had an idea like this kicking around in my head. Mapping specifically for D4V sounds like a great idea and lots of fun.

Fun fact: Mapping at Warpspeed almost featured a remake of Doom 4's first hell level. It was gonna be called Warp Sanctum and I never finished it. It mainly served as a test for me using that project's resources. The first chunk of Map30 of PUSS IX is that level, it's been changed a tad so you can't really see the Kadingir Sanctum's layout planning in it anymore, but the spirit is still there!

Amazing idea. I still feel clumsy as hell in the Doombuilder, so I wonder if I can cook anything up in 6 hours. I'll try my hand at it, and can't wait to see how others interpret Doom 2016's gameplay!

Hey @MemeMind, Quick question: how would you go about making a map without mouselook? Wouldn't that be both very difficult and extremely cumbersome? I'm still new to the editor, so I'm genuinely asking if there are any tips or tricks someone could give me if I were to make a map for this.

No mouselook as in no free look up and down. We use mouselook as shorthand for that. You’re allowed to use your mouse to look around, just using the doom default of left and right only.

FYI, the resource pack has some fatal errors; the following textures are missing patches according to dsda-doom:

  • DOWINDOW
  • ROCK23G
  • A_MRKX
  • CPNLW40

Meme is likely at school so here's a hotfix for now until he gets back. I simply just removed the broken textures.

Alright, here's a little spur-of-the-moment map from me.

mfg_puss27.zip

Map Name: Cesspool
Author: MFG38
Music: "When Hell Freezes Over" by myself
Sky: DOSHELL
Format: Boom
Difficulty Settings: may be implemented later
Build Time: ~3 hours

Comments: Small Hell map that does a little loop around itself and has the bare minimum amount of
arena fights. One gives you the yellow key, the other has you kill Imps to unlock the exit. Theme
was intriguing this month, so I just wanted to slap together something small and hope it qualifies.
Happy to make changes if needed.

Hello, I wanted to ask, is it allowed to use the assets of this and previous PUSS for personal projects if proper credit is done? I've wanted to participate in the speedmapping sessions for a long time, as it surely is a lot of fun plus the additions of the resource packs are always interesting and good looking, but I just don't have the time to feel comfortable mapping for over 20 minutes at a time. I thought it would be nice to have the chance to map on my own without time restrictions, but, yeah, I wanted to ask if it's alright to use the assets. I could not post the maps if that's a better option, as I ultimately just really want to try out the texture packs and see what I can doo with them, as some sort of creative relief. Thanks in advance! And, of course it's okay if the assets are not free to use, just thought there's no harm in asking.

So you want to use the assets for your own purposes?

PUSS mapping is nonconsecutive, you can map in 20 min intervals. Just make sure the combined time isnt majorly over the time limit.

 

If you want to use the resoruces just remove the M_Doom and keep the correct credits.

The idea I have is to just map as if I was participating but taking my time to detail things the way I normally would in a map, without limiting the time I have to do things. Just, let the creavitivity flow and see what I can come up with without thinking that detailing will possibly take away from the final product, as I might not have time to add everything I wanted to the map if my time ticks away because I adding some benches and tables to an outside area or something along those lines. If I were to post, it'd be something like "I made this set of 5 maps using the assets from PUSS XX as a creative relief and challenge for myself"

 

I will try to make a map for this project though, because maybe I can actually pull something off. It's worth the shot and it could be fun. Thanks for the response!

You are allowed 7 extra hours of detailing time.

I can't find that in the post, but I guess it is implied in "After your six hours of mapping are up, you can continue to build your map's aesthetics." 

 

You're right, though, I didn't take that into consideration and I'm sorry for the misunderstanding

For most and all PUSS projects I'm pretty cool with folks using our resource packs to make their own stuff with outside of the series. More often than not our resource packs are just compilations of textures found from around the web, but every now and again we'll do something special with extended custom assets (as with 22 and 21). That being said, if you do use them all I'd ask is that you just link the project in a .txt somewhere with your wad to let folks know where you get the stuff.

Guess what! My laptop is broken! Will likely not be contributing to this project and the next since I can’t afford a replacement lest I claim a “I’ll do it next year” slot. 
 

Speaking of this project! There are two and a half weeks left for submissions to PERPETUAL TORMENT! Miss not out ye heathen!
