I have been planning this project for a year. In fact I remember planning this last May. I hope you enjoy this This month, 7 years ago, Doom 2016 (often referred to as Doom 4, DOOM 4, but rarely doom FOUR) was released, thus getting myself and a perpetual boatload of other neophytes into this amazing hobby and community of torment! To celebrate this game we will be using Noiser’s amazing Doom 4 Vanilla mod combined with a resource pack of textures I hand crafted for this event. The Goal is to make maps that look and play as close as we can get to the original Doom. Doom 2016 (DOOM 4), not the original original Doom (DOOM). Welcome to Perpetual Torment! We’ll be spending May recreating the dirty and grimy industrial factories from the space station Mars base of the UAC. Alternatively you could replicate the many pristine labs and facilities that make up the second half of Doom 2016. Or perhaps you’re feeling like a yellow fellow? You can even try to recreate Hell itself! If there are any minor gaps or patches needed in the resource pack, ping me for reasonable accommodations. LAYOUT TIME: 6 Hours IWAD: DOOM 2 FORMAT: BOOM in DOOM 2 - We’re targeting DSDA doom so test in that or any other ports of similar compatibility level. Resources: Our resources have the Doom 4 Vanilla mod built in. I do recommend playing the standalone build to get used to the changes. NO JUMPING AND CROUCHING. Since jumping is not allowed, make sure you give a good deal of thought on how to make your arena interesting combat-wise, and to include verticality effectively. Build your levels with mouselook disabled too. ARENA DESIGN: Each map must include 2 major Arena encounters. Doom 2016 is a game based on arena design. If you don't know, that's the kind of design where combat encounters are designed around an area.Locking the player in a room, Teleporting enemies, and so on. Incidental encounters are still recommended for other parts of the map, but these 2 main arena fights must be the core of the design and will act as the major set pieces of your map. DOOM 2016 AESTHETICS: Your map must be made to resemble Doom 2016, either it being the dark and rusty industrial pits of the Mars base, the surface of mars, the white and pristine labs, or the pits of Hell. Good thing we have a resource pack that gives all these possibilities else you’d be shit out of luck! DOOM 4 is known and regarded for its chunky and engaging atmosphere, so try to lean into immersion as best as you can.[OPTIONAL]DOOM 2016 INSPIRED MUSIC: Doom 4 Vanilla has tons of Doom 2016 music in the mod, you can use this. You can also use any midi that sounds like it would fit with the rest of the midis in D4V. For example, Quake 2 midis would fit in this wad. MAPS ARE DUE BY JUNE 30TH BY 11:59 PM PST IN THREAD OR DISCORD Mapping time is nonconsecutive Your timer will only go down when you are mapping or playtesting. Speedmaps will be under the honor rule. Neither you nor I can prove if a map went over the time limit or not, but trained eyes can see what is and is not a speedmap. If you cheat, people will notice. I would recommend spending some time looking over the texture pack before you begin mapping, so that you don’t waste time scrolling. Once your time is up, if you haven’t beaten your map, please spend time to verify that your level is beatable. Any time in Slade used to give a custom sky, midi, etc. is outside of your mapping time. After your six hours of mapping are up, you can continue to build your map's aesthetics. Just make sure you aren't doing any real major gameplay additions. Map submissions must include a builder screenshot of the layout you came up with after 6 hours and then a screenshot of the map you refined from it. I'm OK with you submitting a map before you refine it if you need feedback/suggestions. There is no cap to how many maps you can submit to these events. It was gonna be called Warp Sanctum and I never finished it. It mainly served as a test for me using that project's resources. The first chunk of Map30 of PUSS IX is that level, it's been changed a tad so you can't really see the Kadingir Sanctum's layout planning in it anymore, but the spirit is still there! 2 Share this post Link to post

We use mouselook as shorthand for that. You’re allowed to use your mouse to look around, just using the doom default of left and right only. 1 Share this post Link to post

MFG38 Posted May 4, 2023 (edited) Alright, here's a little spur-of-the-moment map from me. mfg_puss27.zip Map Name: Cesspool Author: MFG38 Music: "When Hell Freezes Over" by myself Sky: DOSHELL Format: Boom Difficulty Settings: may be implemented later Build Time: ~3 hours Comments: Small Hell map that does a little loop around itself and has the bare minimum amount of arena fights. One gives you the yellow key, the other has you kill Imps to unlock the exit. Theme was intriguing this month, so I just wanted to slap together something small and hope it qualifies. SharkyChip Posted May 5, 2023 Hello, I wanted to ask, is it allowed to use the assets of this and previous PUSS for personal projects if proper credit is done? I've wanted to participate in the speedmapping sessions for a long time, as it surely is a lot of fun plus the additions of the resource packs are always interesting and good looking, but I just don't have the time to feel comfortable mapping for over 20 minutes at a time. I thought it would be nice to have the chance to map on my own without time restrictions, but, yeah, I wanted to ask if it's alright to use the assets. I could not post the maps if that's a better option, as I ultimately just really want to try out the texture packs and see what I can doo with them, as some sort of creative relief. Thanks in advance! And, of course it's okay if the assets are not free to use, just thought there's no harm in asking. 1 Share this post Link to post

PUSS mapping is nonconsecutive, you can map in 20 min intervals. Just make sure the combined time isnt majorly over the time limit. For most and all PUSS projects I'm pretty cool with folks using our resource packs to make their own stuff with outside of the series. More often than not our resource packs are just compilations of textures found from around the web, but every now and again we'll do something special with extended custom assets (as with 22 and 21). That being said, if you do use them all I'd ask is that you just link the project in a .txt somewhere with your wad to let folks know where you get the stuff. 2 Share this post Link to post
