i would love to see a doom wad with levels based on big detailled paintings (it's probably a bad idea but still fun to think about) (a few examples from artists i like)

I asked Google photos to find "cool images", and these were among the ones it came up with. The first was taken on the Enchanted Highway in North Dakota in June.

The last two were ones I generated using Fractview in late 2019. I like the way one is bounded chaos, whereas in the other it has distinctly escaped. If you want to know the formulae used, then I could probably dig them out.
