The Official 'Trying to Find a Specific WAD' Thread

Recommended Posts

I remember playing a wad a long time ago that starts off in a spaceship flying through space and you eventually get the ship to enter a planet's atmosphere and then the next map is on the surface of the planet.

The really awesome thing was when standing on the bridge looking out during the transition it would go from a starfield texture to clouds and ocean. It was amazing and I'd love to play it again.

This has stuck with me for a while, I remember one part of this map ..you open some doors and there are pews with demons in their demon church and the "preacher" was like a hell knight and the whole scene was just really well done, demon church....no clue on how to find it again.

This song stuck on my head for over 20 years.

The only thing I could remember was the transition between maps being railroad, and lo and behold, page 5 of search results revealed it was Alien Vendetta, and the track was Fire Fight - Track 2.

Bless this community.

Sounds like Tei Tenga.

Edit: well, there is a spaceship flying through space at the start. I'd have to load up an ancient version of Zdoom to check beyond that.

Thanks for the reply but that's not it sadly.

Not sure I ever played that one though I will have to check it out.

I've been trying to track a number of wads by Kevin Robinson (The Solution), some also made in collaboration with Bryant Robinson (Gunrock). The Robinsons released remastered/updated versions of several of their wads, and in most cases the originals can no longer be found. According to the wiki here are the wads whose original is no longer available:

Storage Area 32

Gothic Dreams

Silent Steel

Mines

The Fallen: Dark Ascension

Dark Whispers

I tried looking these up myself but as you can guess from a quick glance, some of these names are so generic that I get flooded with books about astrology or the architecture of William Critchlow Harris, or I just get no hit beyond the remaster on idgames. The reason I'm interested in finding them is a bit more than just archival curiosity: in the few cases where both original and remastered still exist, either the remaster changed the architecture so drastically that some maps are completely different (as in Southern Cross), or only some of the maps (one third for Slipgate, half for Dissolution) are in the remaster. I'm wondering if the same happened with some of the others, and many of their maps are now missing as a result. @Gunrock has an account but hasn't been active for over a year. If anyone still has these originals that'd be great.

I have put all the older Gunrock/Solution stuff I can readily find here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cSWDq1Acr5eWo_MkhTOvgeGLuJviPz98/view?usp=sharing

I couldn't find The Fallen: Dark Ascension. Do you know what the file-name was?

Thank you very much! Interesting to see some of these got remastered more than once, I didn't know about multiple older versions. It does confirm what I suspected and that some maps never made it through the remaster, each of the Gothic Dreams here has one map that is unique to it and isn't in the remaster, Silent Steel has 2 maps that got lost. I'm almost certain The Fallen's filename would just be "fallen", the reason the old ones got lost is that they got directly replaced on idgames without creating new entries, and this shouldn't change the filename. It seems to be the case for all the others, eg old Silent Steel is "steel" in your upload, and the remaster is "steel" on idgames.

Well, Internet Archive finds this version from 2014:

I've been trying to find this WAD for a while now, and haven't had any luck so far. I'll try to describe it as best as I can.

I don't remember the name, but everything in me wants to say it's "Drown in Blood" Even though I know for a fact it is not. This is probably due to the fact that Drown in Blood can be abbreviated as DiB and I seem to remember confusing them on Zdaemon back in the day (like it could be "DiD, "BiB, BiD, etc...or maybe I'm completely misremembering lol. I would've played it somewhere between late 2006 and early 2008, and it was a slaughter map

One map I remember featured a volcano in the center of a dark, open arena. it kind of felt like seeing a volcano in a giant underground cave. The floor was non-damaging lava, and the volcano had a spiral ramp all the way to the top with thousands of demons on it (Mostly mancubi, arachnotrons, and pinkies iirc) and tons of cacos. At the top were a bunch of cyberdemons and a switch (that I think ended the level). The biggest identifying feature of the map, however, was the presence of stationary "turrets" in the lava outside the volcano. You would take a lift up to the switch for it, and activating the switch would rapid-fire hundreds of BFG balls, plasma, and rockets in a wide pattern similar to the spread of the SSG.

The second map I remember felt like a WW2 inspired map, with trenches and bomb craters scattered throughout a green grassy field. I seem to remember some of the craters having landmines or something in them that would explode when stepped on. Again this was a slaughter map, and also featured the same BFG/plasma/rocket turrets as the other map I described.

I hope someone here knows what WAD this is...it's been driving me crazy trying to find it. Thank you for any help you can offer.

This sounds like it might be Operation: Drown in Blood by AK-01. He originally released it as a standalone wad named odib.wad but then we added it to Drown in Blood as map30.

Hey there, I've been trying to find a specific Doom WAD (might've been a ZDoom WAD) that was hosted on "The Indie Game Database" back in about 2008-2012 roughly. I recall it starts with walking on an alien planet with blue grass if I recall properly, leading through different sections of a map where the end is a doorway maze that spawns some larger enemies. After collecting all the items you need, you run back to start but now enemies are everywhere.

I vaguely recall it being about checking an abandoned station and had a space theme, but the title and everything elude me. It was only one map/level with a little story in it. Scribbled a bit of the start of the map from memory. If anyone knows what this is, I'd greatly appreciate it.

All right, this is not gonna be an easy one, but at least I have screenshots.

This is a WAD I played on skulltag/zandronum ages ago, unfortunately I cannot remember what it's called. What you're seeing is screenshots of the last map, and I believe that weird-looking spider there is the final boss of the WAD, wielding, if I'm not mistaken, a BFG as a weapon. This was a short wad, around 4 to 7 maps long I wanna say, and I do happen to have the sky used in the very first map, which was set in a house with imps roaming outside, and also had fog similar to the screenshots above I believe

Any help in finding this would be highly appreciated...

One year on, it's time for an update! Thanks to @lupinx-Kassman, I was able to locate the WAD(s) in question! Turns out that it is in fact two separate mods by the same author, Doomaniac, a Brazilian modder. They are Infernal War and Chaos. Thanks so much, kass!

hello, i'm looking for 2 wads, one i have pictures of, apparently it's from a project where a couple of people went for over-detailling as much as possible https://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k87/olo_floof/doom2-retard/sdpump05c.png https://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k87/olo_floof/doom2-retard/fredlol1.png https://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k87/olo_floof/doom2-retard/sdhall01.png

the other one i have a description, it's a xaser map : at the beginning it's all just a flat plane and then rooms and stuff pop up as you start walking around, it's a very complicated sector thing

I dont have a screenshot and im sorry to say my description will be hopelessly vague.

I've been trying to track down a surreal puzzle map. It was named literal nonsense. Literally something like jpi23z, like, gibberish letters. the visual style was super clashing and bizarre, very very colorful. It started off in a big chamber w/ just a shit ton of imps on all sides and the player has to sort of fight their way out, and explore something kind of like a city. I think there was a section with a big crusher? and at some point there might be a cyberdemon???

again im sorry this is so vague but this was recommended to me once and i was fascinated by it but despite years of searching ive never been able to track down where/who recommended it to me or what it was

update: it definitely wasn't lilith.pk3

Looking for a community Doom 2 megawad. I only remember a couple of levels; one with a cross shaped platform in the middle of a circular room full of nukage, and another level that was set at night? and was a base that consisted of several corridors laid out in a grid layout, with the spaces inbetween the corridors open to the air.

There was another the level that I remember the most about:

It was a large and complex base that you started out on the outside of.

There were multiple ways into the base from the starting area.

In the top left of the map was a STARTAN room containing the red key, which you had to use platforming to get.

Round the back of the base was a small area where you went out onto some cliffs.

To the right of the entrance was a long thin room.

There were a lot of switches in the level, and it often wasn't obvious what pressing them did.

The level had a walkthrough on Doomwiki.

It didn't have custom textures. I realise this is a vague description but it's all I remember. I think Onemandoom reviewed it, and used the cross shaped platform as the image for the level that had it. I'm not even sure I'm not confusing multiple wads together here.

Edit: It was Community Chest 2 The level I remembered the most about was Beyond Pain.

No End In Sight?

One of the images sort of matches your description of a cross shaped platform in nukage.

Hi Doomworld, I've been trying to find a map i played a few years back but trawling through wads and the wiki hasn't been successful.

Here's what i can recall:

A big underground sewer/ cavern area with mostly vanilla textures.

Most of the level you are in nukage and need to constantly grab radsuits.

Sections are quite repetitive with timed teleport ambushes with lots of imps.

There's a secret that teleports you up high in a alcove with an invun to help with 3 or more cyberdemons.

The above might be totally wrong, my memory is terrible. If anyone can help thank you in advance.

I remember this one WAD that was styled after PSX Doom visuals-wise, and it had the Doom logo from the 2005 film as its M_DOOM graphic. Unfortunately that's all I remember.
