Box Doom - Community Project [Slots Filled]

@randomsounds01 Here's my final submission for this project: Box 57 titled "Vile Luxury" - a claustrophobic art deco nightmare that doesn't give you any room to breathe. Difficulties are implemented, and ammo/health can be adjusted later during integration.

 

It requires the OTEX wad. Let me know when it's good and I'll repost it with just the textures I'm using within the wad itself to save space.

I'm fairly new to doom mapping as a whole, so could someone please explain how to use the textures from OTEX when running the alpha version of BOXDOOM? thanks

Two ways really

 

1. First method - Using any modern Doom editor:

 

Open the wad in the editor and go to Tools and then go to  Game Configurations. Finally select your OTEX WAD with the Add Resource button and add it via the From WAD File tab. Now you can just press play and run both files at the same time.

2. Second Method - Just drag and drop both files into your source port of choice and like magic it works.

Textures: A small handful from Plutonia and Plutonia Revisited 2, already compiled in the wad.

Size: 512x512 with 10 monsters

Additionally I submitted a MIDI as a candidate for the overall MIDI of the map, it's not my own or anything, "Bloody Skies" by Psychedelic Eyeball.

In the op message it says that 30 is open. I was planning to use it, but since I will not make more maps for this project, I will be happy to have your box between mine.

 

Still, it has been almost 10 days since the organiser didn't reply or updated anything here, and with several issues with the project not even solved, I'm not sure...

Sorry I haven't been replying to people, I updated the alpha and am in the process of getting some more of it done.

@randomsounds01, can you update the screenshot for the boxes on the original post? Will there be a central hub connecting the areas for easier player progression and backtracking?

It's really okay, I think random just needs a little time to figure it all out. I'll just wait until everything has settled so I know which slots are open for real.

For all interested mappers who haven't picked a slot: in the current map screenshot in the original post, the map numberings are off starting at 59 - they're off by 1. Start counting at 50 to see what I mean. Just keep this in mind if you want to choose a map with a specific slot after that point, as the orientation may be different than what is currently shown.

Ok here is my box:

Box15: Take Cover

Textures: Default Doom 2 textures

Size: 512x512 with 10 monsters (only 9 appear in the hard skills, the other remaining enemy appears on easy)

I play tested this a lot before submitting it here, so please let me know if something could be changed or improved. It would be great to get some feedback.

@glue_sniffer Pretty good map, love the tyson concept and it's pretty tense if you go along with it

One thing I noticed is that I get stuck right before the revenant encounter.

idk what's going on here, my best guess is either the diagonal box is blocking me or it's some weird sector that's protruding too far

Important note for mappers in the spoiler who have slot 28+

The BFG is unobtainable. This map is just to trick players. anyone mapping for slots 28+ please don't take this map into account when balancing your boxes

If a map before my slot introduces the BFG; I wouldn't mind this box being moved to an earlier available slot and getting rebalanced if only to increase the impact of both seeing a BFG for the first time and actually getting the BFG

Yes, but also you can't get that BFG without cheating (atleast that's how I designed it, let me know if and how you're able to grab it and I'll tighten it down a peg), it's just a trap to spawn more monsters in

@randomsounds01 There have been several discrepancies on who gets each box. Below in the spoiler I have attempted to rectify this issue. I have listed the contributors in order by who requested the box first. I have also updated each room numbers with their titles too. There were also a few contributors who haven't been assigned a box as of yet. If you are listed in a spot with another contributor, please work this out between the both of you and randomsounds01 thanks. Currently I don't know exactly how much spots are totally available either.

Edit: If each interested submitters requests are accurate there is only 2 boxes available even though there appears to be 15 spots open.

This I hope would help randomsounds01 better compile the project and when creating the readme after the project is complete. Next week I will forward a link to the folder, which will include all the updated room submissions, to randomsounds01 to help him keep everything in the same place and better manage the project. In my opinion I think creating a Google form for submissions is a great way to keep everything organized.
