Missile Mishap (My 2nd Map)

Recommended Posts

I am new to the world of mapping and this is my 2nd map I've done called Missile Mishap.

It is an abandoned underground missile complex that was seized by Demons from Hell to use Earth's own defensive weapons against us! There is only on Guy that can Rip 'n' Tear and reclaim what's rightfully ours!

My map

  • it's only a single map
  • played with and tested on GZDoom
  • GZDoom only
  • mouse look
  • no jumping or crouching
  • the only difficulty at the moment is Ultra Violence
  • replaces map 02 in Classic Doom 2

Please enjoy and feedback is welcome!

Honestly need to give a tremendous credit for all the help he gave me, couldn't have done it with him, thank you so much Finnisher 🥰😊❤️

Absolute banger of a map and massively impressive for your second ever map only!

I can't even imagine the kind of maps you'll do in time!

So yeah can recommend big time.

Wow, I was expecting a small romp through some caverns, not a sprawling 500-monster trek. There's some good stuff here, but is the current version right? I don't start in the same place LadyMistDragon does in her video, but rather the tech area shown at 14 minutes. I could tell *something* was off as there was hardly any ammo or weapons, but I stubbornly infighted, berserk-punched, and ran away from things to get to the exit anyhow, which made for an interesting challenge.

Realized I never linked my playthrough here, so, here, lol

(Done on a slightly older version of the map but just minor things)

Hey, that makes a lot more sense!

Good: Lots of nice detailing/doomcute, the opening section and general first half has a lot of things going on and interesting combat, the end fight is also decent in combat and detail. Even if it looks like the work of a newish mapper it's clear you put a lot of thought and effort into it.

Bad: Combat kind of fizzles after the cave past the blue door and the difficulty curve is all over the place. This isn't horrible but having the BFG and so many cells makes a lot of the later lower-tier fights completely trivial. The cavern section at the end is often quite plain, even some gradually descending/ascending heights and changing light levels would go a long way to improving that. Default Doom 2 music, especially for longer maps, is boring although at least since this is MAP02 it isn't D_RUNNIN.

Bugs: Your see-through-but-not-shoot-through windows don't look right at all in software mode, you might not want to bother fixing them here but you should learn to do it another way for the future. The lock-in pillars meant to keep you in arenas are too slow/close and the player can back out even on reaction, getting trapped on the other side.

All in all pretty ambitious and quite a good second map!

An almost straight-line map and it's relaxing not to have to look for a key or a switch in a maze! I didn't use the BFG a little to have a little more challenge and in the final zone I would have liked the boss to come down into the arena for a wild face to face.

But in any case this second map is very encouraging for the future!

Pretty grandiose second map but interesting - nice scenes and moments - that big missile was cool and those steps were CRAZY - fun time with group of friends hope you like the commentary

good times

FYI a fixed version is coming that works correctly with software rendering, invisible walls and the grates in the beginning should no longer bug out.

That's actually on me, I helped make the invisible walls but forgot to test in software mode so they had an oversight left (and are done in a vanilla way).
