I remember this being freeware for some time, but then the author wanted to make a mobile port and removed the free download, with the official site going down indefinitely (?) shortly afterwards. I played the demo version a bit, some time ago, and I generally liked it. It's a good mix of first-person shooting and action-adventure. On a different note, here's a thing that makes me wonder: does anyone know a game that would be to Duke Nukem 3D what Quake is to Doom? I mean, something very similar but in true 3D and taking heavy advantage of the new 3D tech? Is it even possible? I remember reading a preview of SiN that basically said something along the lines of "this is much more than just Duke Nukem 3D on the Quake II engine", but I guess this is already an indicator that SiN has introduced far more new elements of the story-driven kind, which to me are hallmarks of the next generation of FPSs compared to Duke and the other big Build titles. Perhaps a more obscure game exists that kind of goes in that direction? By which I mean a way more interactive and detailed world than vanilla Doom or Quake, but at the same time more non-linear and not heavy into cutscenes and other non-interactive storytelling techniques. 0 Share this post Link to post
DrRock Posted December 21, 2023 Two games that were featured on a magazine's cover discs in the mid 00s. Celestial Impact (Mod DB, official website) A multiplayer FPS in which players can terraform the environment. Never got around to play this since I didn't have my own internet connection at the time plus my pc at the time couldn't handle the game very well in the first place. Doesn't look like it ever had much of a playerbase to begin with. video footage: Spoiler The Hunted Chronicles 1&2 (Mod DB, official website archive) Abandoned WIP game. Sort of like a mixture between old RE and Half-Life. Especially the first game, where you have to knife zombies en masse. These were sort of fun from what I remember. I think the sequel had an unfinished section that could not be beaten but came with a save that would let you bypass it. The Mod DB page indicates that there were some more features planned for further development, such as an inventory system and Co-op. video footage: Spoiler 3 Share this post Link to post
ReX Posted December 21, 2023 I don't know if this game has been mentioned, but Killing Time is a somewhat obscure FPS game from 1996. 1 Share this post Link to post
Artman2004 Posted December 21, 2023 Grappling Hook from 2009, a first-person puzzle-platformer. I don't know if it counts as a shooter, but what the hell. The reviews for it often compare it to Portal. https://ghook.speedrungames.com/ 1 Share this post Link to post
