Doom HD Sprites and Textures (UPDATE 25.8.24)

Now I play Wolfenstein_X but sprites in this game irritate me :) This wolf 100 years old sprites absolutely do not fit with modern mods. I like wolfenstein and much but this combination OLD/NEW is not much good. Now I start redone some sprites in hd. Nothing with many details etc but hd with wolf style. I do not know if this fit with other wolf mods because this game have strange big layers with small sprite but this is not problem edit for other wolfendoom games. Now is finished big health but this was quick (maybe 1,5 hour). More soon

I did also lowres versions but with 2x higher resolution. This better fit with game

this is ok because this is not main weapon sprite but only muzzle flash. This part during shoot only cover  weapon sprite.

For best result please set in GzDoom options.

 

"adjust sprite clipping = allways" 

 

and

 

"sprite bilboard = Y/axis"

 

In ini? In which section?

 

2. Which hd texture shoud i download?

Is not complicated but if you want in hd more than 90% game you must combine more mods

 

For settings

 

No in game options. Start game, go in OPTIONS set

1.Simple options menu OFF

2. Display Options

3. Hardware Renderer

and set

Adjust Sprite clipping : Allways

Sprite Bilboard : Y Axis but this is default on Y axis in GzDoom

Update for textures

Now open zdoom-dhtp-20180514.pk3 (double click)  Open my update for textures and simple copy paste my textures inside "hires" folder.

 

Now all pk3 files put inside GZ doom folder (sprites, weapons,textures). 

Now open gzdoom.ini and under Global autoload section put all names pk3 files in this format

 

Path=name your mod.pk3

This is how in my iny this section look

 

This is only for example because I have some packs with different name

Hi all,

I did HD collection for doom games. All in one. Now you do not want combine more packs because all is in one pk3 file. Only monsters and menu/font is not inside .

HI, sorry for writing late. No I have only in HD. I planned do lowres version but I do not know how properly resized HD sprites. I try but do not look good because edges are transparent in true color and in 256 colors I must manualy edited every sprite and this is too much time. I have new rerelease doom but I still working on textures and sprites for first doom games. Maybe later.

Finished all startan textures + brown green, brown96, brown1 texture, big brick3, 2x light texture, floor4_8, floor5_1,bigbrik, stone2 + 3x new alternative skyboxes.

 

now are on my patreon page. I do not know when will be public. I do not have much time and is too much hectic updated all moddb packs...

It looks nice, but something is still not quite right. On the brown textures, it's unclear what happened to the top, why those rectangular things (I'm not sure what they are) seem to disappear at the top. On the metal textures, the mosaic looks like it was rubbed with sandpaper in the center, while on the edges something like rust remain. It didn't feel that way in the original, I think.

 

Doom's graphics is unique. It seems that any attempt to improve it in a higher resolution results in something different. Something is improved, but something is lost.

Many people think on brown texture it is a regular rectangle but it is a beveled rectangle. This texture is not used only on walls but also on stairs on the front side. When you did classic rectangle on stairs this do not look much good. Yes maybe would be better did this rectangles little higher but on stair this higher part is strange. I must did compromise. All textures in HD are full of compromises because not everything works good what is fine in 64x72px. Maybe I am wrong but all my textures are close with original how is possible but not 100% 1:1 because this is impossible :)

I think floor 5_1 is ok. In game is also this texture without rust (floor4_8) and I do not do realistic textures I try textures with similar feeling how is in default game. In game this textures looks fine. I am carefully study every texture and if is not good in game in HD I deleted it

I love your work and I love the results. Since there are so many confusing texture packs floating around on the internet, I wanted to ask which texture pack you use or which texture pack suits your HD sprites best?
