Doom Rats [MBF21 Community Project] [2 slots open]

That is definitely starting to look amazing. Yes, most of the members of this project are swamped with other stuff. I'm glad I made the deadline so long, it's important for people to relax and have fun too. I'm also bumping the thread for a bit just to raise it. I'll probably leave the project as "open Slots" so more people join in on the fun. Anyways, here is a video of Carmack and Romero if I hadn't posted it before. They are definitely no Zeromasters...

Getting close to RC1 on mine. I was seriously considering pulling out of the project a couple of days ago but as I polished the proverbial turd up for playtesting it really came together and I think I've got a decent and slightly spicy little goofy gimmick map that doesn't overstay its welcome.

Oh, by the way, you should change cheesetex so that flats and textures don't have the same names. That seems to make the software renderer on DSDA-Doom (and probably others) weird out and render the sides like flats and it looks weird and ugly. For the sake of testing my map I just renamed the cheese flats to add an F to the name and all was well after that.

Oooooh, that looks nice! That's the spirit, friend, this project is all about having fun and making a cool gimmicky map. I've gone and changed the flats to have an F or FL in the end. Here is the updated version.

Fun fact: I didn't remember there was a painting near the wall at the dinner table, I just placed a trap there because it felt cool. Now it makes more sense thematically.

I have been busy this month, but I have done a little more work on my map.  The pace will be picking up in the new year, but I wanted to post some pictures to show a bit of my progress.  I've been working on one of the main cities which will contain the keys, and I am also incorporating some elements I made elsewhere on the map into this forest tile.  I even threw in a little shipwreck Easter egg on a beach.

I gotta give an update on this. As I've been focusing a lot on the Amalgoom project, my mapping skills have been improving, and I've also gained a lot more knowledge about the inner workings of community projects. As of now, this project will probably undergo a change of deadline. I want it to be a really fun project. We will probably migrate development to a discord server, as it has proven pretty useful for communicating with mappers and changing ideas and perspectives in a faster way than here in Doomworld. I hope the mappers can understand. This is still not finished, and I'll come back to it with much more care and attention. Thank you in advance.

Been polishing up my "Bedroom" map I made a year or two ago the past few day's. Had another one I started around the same time, supposed to be a kitchen, inspired by the first level from Army Men 2 on PC. I could contribute that to this project if you need another mapper. I will admit, I do get burned out from mapping these day's, so might take me a little bit to finish. I saw you mentioned having a long off deadline though.

Heyyyy! Good to see people showing up! I'm busy with Amalgoom and Box Doom right now, but please keep on mapping! I'll definitely not drop or cancel this project, it's all about having fun! Although I think I'll stop people from making bathrooms after your post, @senpaigru, because we already have at least two of those so the thing might get a bit stale. Where is the love for the kitchens and bedrooms???

I just had a couple of questions before I hammer out the last bit of the map. Is there a current/firm deadline? Second question, is slaughter gameplay okay or are you looking for more traditional maps?

I am not a fan of slaughtermaps, but that's a personal opinion. This project is all about having fun, so you can create one, definitely. I'd just ask you that, if possible, it doesn't become overly long, because that can cause fatigue on the player. By long I mean anything over 40 minutes of regular gameplay overall, counting deaths that may posssibly come.

He takes requests, there's a link to the submission form in his video descriptions. I've been watching him play Doom longer than I've been making Doom maps and his channel was a pretty big inspiration for me to finally jump into it, so I really like getting his feedback on my work when I can.

Nice to know, I'll try to submit something to him later. Would be amazing to have him play something I created!

Here's RC2, tweaked slightly since David's video went out. I fixed a couple misaligned textures I noticed, as well as got rid of the light amp goggles because they're stupid and nobody ever uses them for good reason.

Bumping this again just to say that the project is still not dead. I've officially decided to make it a miniwad with only 10 slots, and will be resuming work on it at a later date, probably the beginning of next year. I've taken on a lot of things at once and will need some sort of Doom vacation at the end of it all. I hope everyone can understand this and we can come back later on with much more needed steam. I hope it isn't too much to ask, as I was really not expecting all of this, but I made some good friends along the way, so it's all good. Stay tuned!
