Adam Oker Posted April 11 I don't think Randi Heit gave that much thought on what the Z stands for in ZDoom (i might be wrong lol). But it's fun to speculate! So, what do you think it could stand for? Personally, it probably stands for something like "Zesty Doom"! 1 Share this post Link to post
Meerschweinmann Posted April 11 I know that the G in GZ-Doom stands for guinea-pig. That makes sense because guinea-pigs are cute but mighty animals. But i can't find an explanation for the Z. 2 Share this post Link to post

Faceman2000 Posted April 11 (edited) It stands for Z-axis cuz it’s the first true 3D Doom engine. 2 Share this post Link to post
Kinsie Posted April 11 IIRC the "Z" in ZDoom stands for "Randi wanted it to be at the very bottom of any listings of source ports" 27 Share this post Link to post
WhateverComic07 Posted April 11 Zebra, because he knew that one day there would be a movie where Chris rock played a zebra who's ass was bitten by a lion played by Ben Stiller. 0 Share this post Link to post
VoanHead Posted April 11 (edited) It’s like if you see a french person playing Doom and ask them what are they playing: ”I am playing ze Doom.” 4 Share this post Link to post
fabian Posted April 11 I guess ZDoom was supposed to be "the last word in Doom source ports". 4 Share this post Link to post
The Final Event Posted April 11 (edited) the vertical axis bc 3d floors and stuff either that or Zorbulational for obvious reasons 1 Share this post Link to post

KubaloBlackMT Posted April 11 (edited) I thought it was "Zandronum Doom" It took me some seconds to find out about "Z-Clipping", maybe that has something to do with it. 0 Share this post Link to post
RataUnderground Posted April 11 I think the Z stands for ZDoom, so the name of the sourceport its ZDoom-Doom. 1 Share this post Link to post

eanasir Posted April 12 (edited) The Z stands for Zirconium, in group 4, and period 5 of the periodic table. 1 Share this post Link to post
dpJudas Posted April 12 Calling GZDoom spyware is simply wrong. Spyware is software where you're not even given the choice in participating in the hardware survey. GZDoom not only gives you the choice, but also explicitly announces which releases even contain the survey code. 1 Share this post Link to post
