That is my opinion, too. I had added a dead cacodemon from "Beautyful DOOM" mod, but will add more later.

damn fine job, although i'd recommend adding some more monsters on the left side of the graphic. maybe use the torso ripping marine sprites from the romerodoomdump and have a lost soul charging through the marine

Here is a TNT BOSSBACK in up to 854 pixels width.

 

It was a challenge to find a place in game to take a screenshot that is not too different from the original to modify it with monsters, blue sky and blue eyes/nose of IoS.

By the way, now the eyes and nose are finer then those blue squares in the original.

Did you put the original graphic in the middle for reference?

 

EDIT: Seems not. There does exist a 560px wide version that more closely matches the original tho:

In this case the middle part was only there for comparing it with the ingame position and take a screenshot when the position was nearly the same.

I could not get it 100% accurate.

 

The monsters were copied from the middle part. The sky, eyes and nose were colored by hand.

 

One bonus this attempt has. The screenshot is in much higher resolution. So i could make a higher resolution version some day.

No glue, what they had done back in the days to the original graphics except making sky blue and put blue squares on the IoS.

The original picture has so much noise init and when i tried to put my extensions from the screenshot to that picture it did not match.

The screenshot was taken in paletted color mode and no fancy features on to be accurate as possible, but that did not help.

 

So i thought why not make everything new and copy the monsters from the old picture.

I suppose, but I think making the image as faithful as possible is usually the best practice when it comes to these widescreen graphics. If I knew who made the 560px widescreen version, I would ask them what they did to replicate that dithering style from the original 320px image, but I don't know who did it, sadly.

How do you like this?

 

The middle part is the lump from TNT.WAD except that red forgotten pixel in the sky i corrected and some wrong pixels in the bottom line the original had.

 

I have played around with different noises GIMP had.

No glue whats the difference of all of them is, but i had found something for the wall texture that is not too bad.

 

Even the floor left and right could be matched with a different noise filter so that they look nearly like the original.

Here are PFUB1 and PFUB2 for up to 32:9 in "Bethesda arrangement".

Ports like Crispy-DOOM, International-DOOM, actual Woof Dev-build can handle it,

 

but Eternity Engine needs it that way.

I have not compared those suns, but it would not surprise me when they are the same, because that is a license free picture. I had found a mars too, but that picture unfortunately translated bad to DOOMs color palette.

The other pro for the sun, the reflections on that ugly starship :)

You can export the colorpalette of DOOM with SLADE3 into a GIMP palette. And so you can use that DOOM palette in GIMP.

 

When using GIMPs tools in "indexed" colors mode that uses the DOOM palette,

the results are others than with full RGB and often better for that case.

Plutonia assets in 854 pixel width.

 

Based on Nash Muhandes Widepix and Scuba Steve.

 

I thought those TITLEPIC stones will be my endboss, but i invested a nearly equal amount of time in that not so fine Plutonia sky.

 

But changing that sky in something more beautyful will need to change the original part too.

So decided to try my hand at a widescreen CC2 TITLEPIC, it isn't much given it's a compromise courtesy of a border, but given the slimefalls at the side and the map CC2 contains, it kinda fits.

The download in the main post should probably be updated with most of the additional stuff posted here, because currently this thread kinda suffers from the same problem as Share Your Sprites/Textures where I have to go through tons of pages just to find what I'm looking for.

Some pictures i posted before got updated. On another monitor i saw today that there were some things visible i had not seen before and that should be deleted.

Making such assets seems to be a never ending story.
