Hey i have same problem, i checked it in waduthor and found problem..
Check linedef 3452 (In room from that you jump for yellow key), that linedef has function "down to lowest floor" and it is in same tag as swich which open secret door..I have no idea why Erik set it so u can only press swich from floor

For a final solution to how the secret exit works:

The switch to open the entrance to the secret level is beyond the yellow door. If you reach the yellow key the normal way by traversing the rest of the level first, the switch will disappear (a linedef just before the yellow key will lower the switch into the floor). However, by performing the trick jump to the boxes (or even an archvile jump) to get the key, you can avoid the linedef and the switch will remain.

Of course, one can simply activate the switch from above, like doom e2m2 or doom2 map15, if you know exactly where it is. Just flip the switch that way when you're going to the final elevator.

Wow, that´s a fantastic demo, loved the part where Vile switches to the ssg for a revenant while there´s an archvile behind and some hellknights infront of him :))

Yes it is absolutely true, great demo from start to end.!!!

That switch in map15 works only with complevel 3 or 5 (maybe -1?), that explains why I couldnt hit it using maxroute where I had set complevel 0.
I did 0:39 speed for normal exit on this map, I should improve it more but I have to go to sleep now :) It was great entertainment anyway.

Awesome demo, stx-vile! I can't say I've seen anyone do MAP23 nearly as well, let alone on a pistol start. Very enjoyable to watch. :)

I have some demos of my own to submit:

MAP01 UV Pacifist in 0:26 (Imp got in my way at the end here, otherwise I would've gotten a better time)
MAP02 UV Speed in 0:35 (Frustrating map, :34 is possible)
MAP02 UV Pacifist in 0:36 (Surprisingly, I found this easier than speed, since there are no revenants at the BK switch)
MAP11 UV Pacifist in 0:34 (Had some problems with the imp at the end and the zombies at the start)
MAP15 Normal Exit UV Speed in 0:36 (Heh, sorry about that Gusta, I just got this yesterday! Still could use improvement)

The MAP01 UV pacifist turned out to be complevel -1, since I never bothered to add -complevel 1 for that demo's command line and the default was set to -1. So far, I've managed a 0:28 on 1, but I'm too lazy to redo it again. The rest are complevel 1, though.

I'll be sending all five demos to Opulent shortly.

That's ok, I played map15 just for a while and didn't bother to optimize. Anyway, I have terrible lags exactly when I am turning to do YK jump... never could do that part cleanly :(

I have some demos for uv. They are crap!. right now 1-5. The difference between skills in some cases is dramatic. Map 23 is the perfect example. On skill 3 lots of powerups and start invuln. But on uv is another history.

I´ve recorded my first skill 4 demos. Lvls 1-13 right now. Most of them are crap but some months ago i can barely complete those maps on hmp setting. :P


Cool. :) And don't worry about not being a doom god yet - just keep on practising. :)

Outside of that, I agree with Andrey - ZDoom is generally a bad choice for demos. The fact that different behaviour etc. makes comparing demo times in ZDoom vs. PrBoom/doom2.exe/... etc. difficult at best is one problem; the fact that ZDoom demos can only be played back with the exact version they were recorded with is another, especially since Randy Heit typically deletes older releases when he makes a new one (so if you didn't save a copy, you're out of luck then as far older demos are concerned). PrBoom is definitely the better choice; it may take a bit to get used to after you've played ZDoom (to me at least, it feels noticeably different), but that's something you'll get over soon, and the advantages are worth it.

Oh, and BTW, here's something else I noticed - you don't get 100% secrets on some maps, which technically makes them invalid for the UV Max category (this is also why I labelled the HMP column in the demo table "Maxkills" rather than "Max", BTW). Specifically, you seem to get less than 100% secrets on maps 4, 6, 7, 8, 11 and 13.

If you decide to improve these demos, it'd probably be a good idea to make sure you get 100% secrets, too. :)

This topic shouldn't die ... where are you people? I improved the max time of map10 to 3:10, better demo than my previous but I am still not fully satisfied with it :)
Also had some goes on map27 :) It's not as hard map as it seems. Got one very good try ended with a damn stupid mistake near mountain. Just hope that tommorow will bring something better.

Seems like attention has shifted to 2sectors.wad now - unfortunately. Not that I really mind (it's an interesting WAD, and the demos are excellent), but I agree that it's rather unfortunate that noone seems to be interested in Scythe 2 anymore now, especially since we don't have a UV maxdemo for map27 yet. >_>

(Yes, I know, I should get recording instead of complaining... but I just don't have the reflexes to really get far in most DOOM levels, especially not in hard maps on UV :)).

Definitely looking forward to your new demo(s), though, Gusta! :)

Been quite some time since I did a Scythe2 demo, but I just did a map15 UV-Max in 9:37. Tough level indeed. Easily improvable I think, but this is the only exit I got after a couple days worth of attempts.

Sending to Ops now.

I'm also thinking about trying to do a UV Max for map27 (Haven't worked out a route/strategy yet, but I think I'll get to that tomorrow).

Dumb question, but is there a BFG in map27 on UV? I can't seem to find one. Just curious.

According to DMTHA, not on UV. There's one on skills 2 and 3, and also a multiplayer-only BFG on all skill levels.

I had some good tries on map27, best one ended nearly before the end (at the mountain), but BFG is there just on coop, the map is doable without it anyway as I completed it with VERY cautious play without recording.
I dont have much time to play it now but if it helps my startegy to do some decent run was:
-run for SSG, then back, kill 1st enemies, get some infights
-kill 4 mancubi on left side with SSG maybe some infight with baron
-then kill 2 Elementals
-then pick up some health/armor, run for Invul
-use Invul for quick run to Rocket Launcher, kill teleported archie, go through monsters to rocket as many as possible Spectres till Invul get out to made some save point there
-then clean out the yard
-after that avoid to be closed in a cave, simply step there and go back, press the opening switch again
-then some casual play (here I died mostly), get first key
-next part is big cave on a right side, casual SG/SSG/RL play here, avoid mancos' fireballls from all sides, bet the second key
-the cyberdemon in a close room, lower the BlueArmor secret first to have enough place for strafing there, also very easy to die there.
-casual play to the mountain
-best way there IMO is to leave all the monsters, run for red key and then run through the mass of monsters (using plasma) back to the red cave, wait a while for some infights, it goes usually quickly there. Clean out the rest with PG/RL.
-then get last key and go to kill Mancubus/revenants on the left side with rockets, get the SoulSphere there
-go to exit
It's not so hard route IMO, casual playing most of the time (estimated average time 18-20 mins?), the disadvantege of this route is that the last soulsphere getting at ravenants alcove is useless as it's used just for the exit which could be easily done without a hurt.
