dmdr Posted January 11, 2008 Yes, it (Raynor's Tale) has a WIP page: http://www.wadsinprogress.info/index.php?a=listwads&wad=1 No demo or anything that I know of though. Someone should get in touch with one of the developers and see if they'll release whatever they have. I'd do it myself, since I'd love to see a modern western TC, but someone more prestigeous would probably be a better bet. EDIT: Crap, beaten to it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Scuba Steve Posted January 11, 2008 There is a developers beta floating around that is a near-completed version... it really showcases how great this project was... and how close it likely was to completion. 0 Share this post Link to post
dmdr Posted January 11, 2008 Are the general public allowed to see it? 0 Share this post Link to post
Nick Perrin Posted January 11, 2008 Wow, I'd also really like to check out that beta. Since it's all that's left of the project, I think it needs to be put up for download somewhere so we can all appreciate the work... 0 Share this post Link to post
Shaviro Posted January 11, 2008 Actually. I do believe that Tomi handed over the "rights" for Raynor's Tale to me. I'm not sure, though. As for RTC, I worked on it a couple of weeks ago. 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted January 11, 2008 I'd never even heard of Raynor's Tale. It looks like it would have been an interesting mod. Shaviro said:As for RTC, I worked on it a couple of weeks ago. Glad to hear it's not dead. Any update on what kind of state it's in? Is the next installment like a million miles away or has quite a bit of work been done? I'm not asking about a release date or anything silly like that, just a feel for where you think it's at. 0 Share this post Link to post

It had everything... great maps, voice acting, special effects, ambiance and was a blast to play. I can't belive it was so close to being completed and simply vanished. Oh wow! it seem like exactly the kind of mod I'd like. So obviously it's never going to see the light of day :( 0 Share this post Link to post

zap610 Posted January 11, 2008 Here yes, but on zdoom I cancelled it officially a while ago. Just never bothered to do it here since the thread was sinking to the bottom of the forums and people didn't really seem to care. Of course if people who have sprite skills do, it is possible to bring it back, but I feel more relaxed now that I don't have to think about it so I don't know. 0 Share this post Link to post
BoldEnglishman Posted January 11, 2008 This reminds me that Scuba Steve actually mentioned Raynor's Tale as the "Greatest WAD NOT released" or something in one of the Cacowards pages. Is this a reflection, judging by how many people have "never" heard of this before, that people just look at the menu on the side to see what has been given a Cacoward? I've actually read through the entire thing, so I saw Scuba's little paragraph about Raynor quite a while ago. EDIT: Of course, not everyone may even CARE about cacowards so that is a partial explanation. Here we are 0 Share this post Link to post
Scuba Steve Posted January 11, 2008 I played through the Beta of Raynor's Tale recently and realized just how amazing it was. You start getting far into and have problems completing tasks since it was never finished and you get stuck... but there is probably a good 2 hours of gameplay... I'd be willing to bet the project was roughly 85-90% complete? The problem is... I have the beta but I have reservations about releasing it since the project is not mine. What I would love to see are some talented mappers... who would play through it and try to finish it. 0 Share this post Link to post

If that's the case, then the existing work should be released as this doesn't deserve to just die out. If it's as close to completion as Scuba Steve says, I'm sure a group from the community could finish it and give a proper release. Is there any way to contact Tomi or someone that knows him to ensure that you have the rights? I would really like to see this go somewhere. Also, I am glad to hear that RTC is not dead. I'm really looking forward to that as well, even if I may have some waiting to do. 0 Share this post Link to post
deathbringer Posted January 12, 2008 Eh? i played a beta of Raynor's tale and it barely seemed complete at all, let alone "nearly done". I couldnt even get out of the second map and there was one pinky in the whole thing. Or is there a more up to date version? I would like to think that, in some way, I helped contribute to you getting laid. Well actually i did lose my virginity on the 10th birthday of Doom. In hindsight Doom was more important. Also who remembers Securitron Episode 3? i loved the first two ones for thier grim "1984" atmosphere (though they where basically all quake rips), Ep 3 was going to have it's own sprites and from the site and the screenshot on Doomsphere (where? -exactly) it looked excellent. I think last time this came up someone said he had an Ep3 WIP knocking about and would upload it, whatever came of that? 0 Share this post Link to post

I went back and payed through the entire map.. and it is ALMOST entirely playable... towards the end it is broken and I believe it has a lot to do with map segments that are uncompleted. Raynor's Tale still needed beta testing and some of the puzzles are very obscure and difficult... also the maps can be broken by getting to areas of the map you are not supposed to... all this could be fixed, however. There are some unreplaced sprites and dehacked work that needed to be finished... but Raynor's Tale is almost playable from start to finish. 0 Share this post Link to post

I think last time this came up someone said he had an Ep3 WIP knocking about and would upload it, whatever came of that? That might have been me. I was talking with Stian a lot at that time and he eventually passed the "latest" build of the project to me, talking about some stuff that would be done eventually. Obviously it never progressed beyond that. I did check to see if I still had it the last time the subject came up, but it's long since been lost.DarkJedi188 said:I loved the concept of Twice Risen so much that I became brave enough to apply for a position as mapper, even though I was a n00b with no previous mapping experience back then in 1999. The saddest part is that when I was on the very brink of finally being accepted to the Twice Risen team, the project got cancelled... Swooosh. Zip. Bam. Just like that. It died.I also had the "latest" version of that as well, though in this case it's because I was actually working on the resource, not just beta testing. I'm afraid that one's long since been lost as well. Though, I might have a copy of the map I started fixing up... I eventually got talked into reworking a map and begun progress on an outdoor area, but then the project died so I dropped it. 0 Share this post Link to post

A lot of work has been done, and if I had the time to sit down and work intently on it, it'd be done this year. I'd really like to see the second chapter come out as there are some pretty spectacular environments and story implementations in there. Oh and I need a very good texture artist. 0 Share this post Link to post
