My list:

1. Valiant - 6

2. Ancient Aliens - 5

3. Alien Vendetta - 4

4. Back to saturn x  - 5

5. Eviternity - 5

6. Scythe 2 - 6

7. Suspended in Dusk - 10

8. Lunatic - 8

9. Plutonia 2 - 2

10. Extermination Day - 4

Time to rethink

Lost Civilization - 10

Back to Saturn X - 10

Suspended in Dusk -10

Scythe 2 - 10

Valiant - 10

Alien Vendetta - 5

Spoiler

Lost Civilization is an ultimate "see that cliff, you can climb it" in doom engine. Huge non-linear levels and some of the best city maps ever. Best adventure map-set.

Back to Saturn X is my personal favorite for doing no-savescumm runs. It's excellent, especially Tough Skin River with THAT music

Suspended in Dusk Is really special, almost dark-souls like exploration of maps that feels real. Espi's Eternal Doom IV - The Shrine is even more of that, but I don't want to spend points to an overall unfinished wad because of 1 level.

Scythe 2  is like a really great, classic fast metal album that you want to re-listen every year or so.

Valiant is like doom being transformed to some tyrian-like-scroll-shooter where you dodge projectiles left and right, constantly moving while listening to some fun arcade-like fast-beat music

Alien Vendetta is like an another classic metal album, this time more dark, grim and serious. Misri Halek is on my save-less replay constantly.

Removed Lunatic because it's basically last episode of Valiant, still awesome though. Ancient Aliens and Eviternity both already have lots of points. Extermination Day was interesting in the years of Brutal doom hype, but now it's kinda meh because nothing beats vanilla. Plutionia 2 - well it's good, but others are more special to me. The main reason for rethinking my points is to move up on the list Lost Civilization. I would've like to give even more points to Suspended in Dusk if i could - both are criminally underrated imo.

Time for another update. I guess I'll do monthly updates or something. I had plans to play top 25 most voted wads in this thread and adjust my votes only after that, but due to shortage of time it'll take me a long long time to beat them, and I don't feel like waiting, heh. Okay here we go:

10 - Armadosia

6 - Scythe 2

6 - Eviternity

6 - Alien Vendetta

6 - Memento Mori

6 - Requiem

6 - Memento Mori II

6 - 2002 A Doom Odyssey

3 - STRAIN

And yes, my opinion on wads swings a lot.

Oh hey, so we can all just stick our two pennies in?

Ok,

1.Eviternity - 10

2.Eviternity II - 9

3.Struggle: Antaresian Legacy - 8

4.Elementalism: Phase One - 7

5.Valiant - 6

6.TNT Revilution - 5

7.Heartland - 4

8.THT Threnody - 3

9.Antaresian Reliquary - 2

10.Doom Zero - 1

1.Eviternity will probably always be my favourite. The second ever megawad I played outside the official 4. The step up in everything was amazing and it made a huge impact on me - it really was like experiencing a dream Doom game. The standard by which all others are judged.

2.Eviternity II is surely objectively better than Ev 1, builds on the first in every way imo, and only comes behind subjectively cos the difference between Ev2 and Ev1 was just a tiny bit smaller than the difference between Ev1 and the IWADS for me. Ev1 wins for how much it wowed me basically. Sequel-itis in films and games, with lack of inspiration is often a problem but not here. Only subjective affection for Evi 1 keeps 2 off the top spot.

3.Struggle: Antaresian Legacy - For a long time this had been on my list to play after finally discovering custom wads in 2022. Finally got around to it last year. Amazing gameplay, and truly astonishing architechture in later levels - mindboggling how much work must have gone into it.

4.Elementalism: Phase one - The nearest thing to playing Eviternity again for the first time. Looking forward to Phase 2 in 2035.

5.Valiant - The Super Chaingun was the first time I played a modified weapon (apart from Doom Zero's chainsaw etc) - it was amazing, and the gameplay and difficulty was the highest I'd seen at that point, surpassing Eviternity.

6.TNT Revilution - Dean of Doom said this wasn't so much a must-play as a must-replay. He was right imo, was impressed but not hugely fussed after first playthrough but on subsequent playthroughs it's really grown on me and I talk about Revilution a lot.

7.Heartland - Great looking, great gameplay. Tough. Thought 7 levels wasn't much but it's enough. Enjoy all the custom stuff and creativity with verticality etc.

8.THT Threnody - A kinda quaint and adorable project in the style of TNT which is my fave IWAD. Lots of nice custom stuff and varied contributions from myriad of mapmakers and musicians. My first time experiencing many of them's work.

9.Antaresian Reliquary - If you've played Struggle like crazy, this is like more of it! Has a good old fashioned expansion pack feel which I appreciated. Turns out to simply be a collection of Antares maps from other megawads (Nova etc) collected together in one. I think this is a great idea! This means people like me who will take forever to ever get to those megawads can play Antares' maps all in one, and be able to experience them when I otherwise wouldn't have. Alpha Scorpii SuperClusterFuck was my favourite (think it was most people's) cos it looks like Valiant done by Antares and just for continuing the Alpha Scorpii name too.

10.Doom Zero - After some deliberation and huge competition, Doom Zero gets the final spot. Special affection for the first ever custom wad I played, for it's creativity with vanilla stuff, surprisingly well placed stock music, new sounds and great little sprite upgrades, and best of all an amazing chainsaw!

To show how amazingly high the competition is, consider that wads like Sigil and BOTH SCYTHE'S were left out :o It's mind-boggling really.

Other highly regarded wads like Ancient Aliens and Alien Vendetta should be on there but I've never played them yet.

EDIT: I might as well just list the wads I've played so far since Feb 2022 in order, along with their ranking. As you can see, there are many on my list that need playing at some point, and that's why they didn't get any points. The bottom 4 are one's I started but left to finish another time.

1.Doom Zero - 10th
2.Eviternity - 1st
3.Memento Mori - 16th
4.Memento Mori II - 18th
5.Sigil - 15th
6.Valiant - 5th
7.THT Threnody - 8th
8.Heartland - 7th
9.Struggle: Antaresian Legacy - 3rd
10.Eviternity II - 2nd
11.Elementalism: Phase One - 4th
12.Hell Revealed - 20th
13.Scythe - 14th
14.Scythe 2 - 11th
15.Antaresian Reliquary - 9th
16.TNT Revilution - 6th
17.The Talosian Incident - 19th
