SpaceTrash Posted December 22, 2020 (edited) What the hell is this? The alpha version of a pack of Dev Textures inspired by the textures available in Valve's Source Engine. These are ugly, why would I want these? Two reasons, one, it can be a nice aesthetic used on their own, but more importantly, it allows mappers to just slap on textures quickly while mapping without just relying on STARTAN for everything. The measurements also give a better ability to "size-out" maps, keeping things in scale etc. What's currently included? A bunch of key textures are currently included with more to come, the current list is below. All textures available in both orange and grey: 128 x 128 wall 64 X 128 wall 64 x 64 wall grid 32 x 32 fine wall grid 128 x 128 door with arrow icon 128 x 128 door with lock icon 64 x 128 door with arrow icon 64 x 128 door with lock icon 16 height steps 128 x 24 counter 16 x 128 support 24 x 128 support 32 x 128 support 4 x 64 x 64 crates 2 x 128 x 64 crates 2 x 64 x 64 & 1 x 128 x 64 crates 16 x 32 x 32 crates 16 x 128 key colour markers (red, blue and yellow) 64 x 64 grid flats 32 x 32 fine grid flats solid colour flats Can I use this in my WAD? Feel free to extract these using SLADE and use them in your WAD, edit them, or whatever you like - I just ask for a name check and a link to this release thread :) What's next? This pack is still very much in development. I plan on working on the following for the next release: Switches A couple more floor options Mid textures Some kind of exit signifier Walls with monster outlines Lights DOWNLOAD DevTex [0.01] Edited December 24, 2020 by OrbitalSpaceGarbage 18 Share this post Link to post
ViolentBeetle Posted December 22, 2020 A few color variants could make for some interesting aesthetic. Wouldn't be hard to colorize them if someone dares. 0 Share this post Link to post

Certainly some scope for that in future. When I first played around with these a while ago I did a lot of different colours. Currently focusing on the orange and grey though, simply because that's what the main colour of the Valve originals. All of these are generated from a master PSD file, so doing new colours is just a case of exporting everything again. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted December 22, 2020 (edited) Note that if you want more variety in dev textures, there are other packs available. There's BlackFish's set here and the one @Remilia Scarlet compiled for the graybox project. It's funny even textures supposed to be extremely basic manage to have different graphic styles. 1 Share this post Link to post

Remember seeing these ages ago, I made these ones because I was looking for dev style textures for Doom and BlackFish's just didn't scratch the itch for me. Still pretty cool though. 0 Share this post Link to post
ViolentBeetle Posted December 22, 2020 A few texture ideas that might be of use for this pack: Abstract demon face representation and maybe some other broad theme signifiers Light sources (Since mapper would like to remember where lights are) Exit sign I can't exactly draw anything decent myself, although somewhere down the line I hope to make a map out of your textures. 0 Share this post Link to post

All good ideas, I've had a couple of ideas RE Demons, will have to add them to the to-do. 0 Share this post Link to post
Redneckerz Posted December 22, 2020 Another texture pack to be inspired by might be Blank-TX, which does what it says on the tin. 0 Share this post Link to post
