Doom 32X Resurrection

Recommended Posts

Is that last thing you told me bad or good?

Because that's how I play all my games.

Without shaders it looks ugly.

It looks nicer with the CRT filter.

First, thank you for getting this done. It's the best console version of Doom already, and getting better every new release!

I've been following this project since the public release, and have been playing all releases on real hardware.

Unfortunately, as I presumed, this new release doesn't work with Mega ED X5, that only has "partial SSF2" support. I tried with and without the Sega CD attached, and got the same "Z_Malloc: failed on 24" message:

I'm aware the patch now needs a SSF2 mapper compatible flash cart and reporting this just because I didn't find nothing about this specific ED model.

BTW, I confirmed super street fighter 2 works with the 32x attached, so, maybe, 32x resurrection can be supported by krikzz too.

Weird, could it be a bug in retroarch on some platforms? I tried both latest stable and nightly RA on Windows, both are using the same picodrive version and sound works just fine for me. Also works on both my linux handhelds running a bit older versions

A guy on reddit who goes by the name Spinosaur1915 has the same problem.

UPD: just tried RetroArch on my mac and there's no in-game sounds there indeed. No idea why.. and to really drive it home, it's a picodrive bug. I'm not going to spend days trying to find a workaround for it, only to break something else in the end.

This turned out to be a fault on our part, which only affects certain emulators. The fix is on the way.

Incredible achievement Vic! Ares runs too slow for me, but Kega Fusion runs fine, however mouse sensitivity is too low! Is there a way to configure this?

Lastly, SIGIL has been ported to PSX by GEC, so you could perhaps use those levels for D32XR as they will already have been simplified?

Thanks.

That SIGIL demake by Roebloz that you mention would need to be modified again to include the Cyberdemon and SMM. If anyone is up for it, they are totally welcome, but I think I'll pass :)

The new Tower of Babel uses the Inferno sky, is that intentional?

Nope, it's an oversight :) Thanks!

v3.1 is out:

- Fixed sound initialization in RetroArch

- Fixed save RAM support on the MegaSD and some early Mega EverDrive models

- Fixed music on Refinery not looping properly

- Increased music playback speed by about 5%

- Changed sky texture on the “Tower of Babel” to match the original

- Slightly sped up the melting screen effect on PAL systems

- Music driver now precaches the entire VGM file in SegaCD word ram to reduce bus contention

Is that Deimos sky appearing in Tower of Babel and Hell Keep?

In v3.1 Tower of Babel uses the ep2 sky, Hell Keeep - the ep3 one

Here are my results using Sega Genesis 1/Sega CD1/32x with Mega SD (error code 797752) and Mega Everdrive V1.01 (snow/freeze during stage completion stats). v3.1

Please get the version info on the MegaSD and the MED. Note on OLD MED carts, you must be running at least OS v10.

MegaSD Version 01.05 R02.

I just updated the Mega Everdrive to OS v10 and it fixed my issues with Doom Resurrection v3.1 with the Mega Everdrive flashcart.

Edit: I notice the Mega SD, even though it gives me error code 797752, it still activates the Sega CD (doesn't play the Doom music cd that's in it though). I also hear a faint "buzz or hum" from the tvs speaker just before the error code. I also discovered I'm unable to boot and play even the unmodified version of Doom 32x (Europe). I'm in the USA on an NTSC console - I get this message "developed for use only with pal and french secam mega drive systems". This is only in regards to the Mega SD, the Mega Everdrive on OS 10 is fine. Tried forcing different regions in via the Mega SD options, but no change (with either the unmodified or modified Doom rom). Edit 2: I noticed I'm unable to boot ANY Europe roms, even with changing the region in the settings or using auto. I've reached out to Terraoinion for a solution.

Final Edit: I just discovered that there's a firmware update (Firmware 1.05 R07). Doom Resurrection 3.1 has now booted and is playable.

The music on the Pandemonium map sounds strange to me. A kind of annoying noise occurs, which sounds like a beeping. Strangely only this map is affected.

Stage 19? I don't have that issue using a Mega SD/Genesis 1/CD1/32X (haven't tried it with my Mega Everdrive yet). Edit-I just realized that I'm using the Sega CD for the in game music, so my analysis probably doesn't mean much in your situation.

What about the original Everdrive MD?

It can run Super Street Fighter II, so will it run this 3.1 version?

How can you activate the Sega CD audio offload in Picodrive? I see no option in the audio menu. I can only select "FM" and "OFF".

Edit: I also noticed the sound of the final exit switches is glitched or doesn't play at all.

It's not something you can "activate" at just your will alone. If the emulator doesn't offer SegaCD mode 1 emulation, then there's nothing you can do about it.

Pretty sure Picodrive emulates the Sega CD. Though, i'm not sure if it's the model 1 specifically.

Not only it has to emulate the SegaCD. It also has to emulate it in mode 1 and the 32X as well.

You are right, a beeping noise is heard a few seconds after the start of the song. I can hear it in RetroArch+Picodrive.

To anyone playing D32xr v3.1 on a Mega Everdrive x3, could you send a photo of the system information window on your Everdrive? It looks like this:

I'm currently troubleshooting my x3's issues with D32xR, so any info about x3s that work with this port would be very much appreciated.
