I noticed the same thing back in my first playthrough. I get the feeling though from analyzing the story some more that you are intended to be locked out from further progression at this point. 1 Share this post Link to post
mancubian_candidate Posted March 25, 2023 I played this once about a week ago and have been too terrified to come back. It made me profoundly uncomfortable and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Really powerful stuff, hopefully I summon up the courage to go back exploring! 3 Share this post Link to post
ChippiHeppu Posted March 25, 2023 Spoiler I'm so glad I did a blind playthrough of this. I knew there was gonna be a twist of some sort but I wasn't expecting anything quite like this. This is one of those WADs that I will never forget. I want to thank @tarrasqueSorcerer for guiding me along and helping me discover all the endings and the easter eggs. Without their help I would have been completely lost. I feel bad for killing the dog... 1 Share this post Link to post

MyHouse has a way to mess with your senses. I too, need time to process the stuff. This is a wad which calls for several playthroughs, a seal of quality in my view. Also good luck to the talented editors who will attempt to make a review of this beast. Eagerly looking forward for your insight. ^^ 3 Share this post Link to post
rat_taxi Posted March 25, 2023 I’ve played through this wad a few times now - I’ve mentioned in this thread too that there’s heavy inspiration from House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski and the first page from the book keeps replaying in my head: Quote This is not for you. 0 Share this post Link to post

ReaperAA Posted March 27, 2023 Move over Misri Halek. THIS is the most memorable Doom map of all time (unless something overtakes this, but I don't even know what can at this point). Spoiler Seriously, what the heck is this map? Who is Veddge? Is this story about his friend real? I explored most of the map, got multiple endings, softlocks and whatnot, and even the "good" ending. And I am still fairly sure now that there is still atleast a good deal more that I haven't explored. 5 Share this post Link to post
tarrasqueSorcerer Posted March 27, 2023 (edited) I've tested a bit of sequence breaking for fun and it seems to work fine. Spoiler House -> bathhouse -> gray house -> staircase -> house -> daycare -> backdoor to gray house -> rest of the map I tested this exact sequence, but you should get the same result if you skydive from the bathhouse straight to the staircase. I didn't go all the way to the ending because I'm lazy, but I got as far as the gas station. 1 Share this post Link to post
coolhouse Posted March 27, 2023 I've never even beaten Doom and this is the first wad I've played but it was amazing, maybe the most unsettling game experience I've ever had. Still need to go back and get to the other endings, it sounds like I completely missed a few areas. Makes me want to mess around with making wads 3 Share this post Link to post

Spoiler The Wiki walkthrough isn't the only possible order, but some areas can only be visited a limited number of times, so basically you do have to think about the route you take. You can only go to Pool House and Nursery House once, and you can only go to Brutalist House twice (using two separate entrances that each only open once). The walkthrough is just an example of a route you can take that's foolproof. 3 Share this post Link to post
Cthulhu Christ Posted March 27, 2023 I recently noticed that the pk3 file in the google drive was updated on Sunday the 26th. I downloaded it and none of my saves sync up with the new version. I did a play through and couldn't find anything new or different but given the journal entry that reads that the map changes itself and builds itself, I would not be surprised if there is something somewhere in the new pk3 that is different or added. Anyone find anything? 6 Share this post Link to post
Scuba Steve Posted March 27, 2023 That would be fucking wild... but Doom Builder seems to indicate the alterations are the addition of a new script that was added to prevent soft locking the bathtub. 6 Share this post Link to post

bkt Posted March 28, 2023 After a couple runs I finished the map tonight. That might be the best custom map I've ever played. As a level designer, lifelong doom player, horror fan and enjoyer of strong narratives, this map was a masterclass. The breadth of little touches are still tumbling around in my mind... I can't even begin to go through all of the things that were so impressive here. I'm jealous of and thankful to the author/s in equal measure. What an amazing experience, built upon the foundations set by such an awesome community. 3 Share this post Link to post

Spoiler This one seems improbable because I checked Veddge's account through Wayback Machine and it has been in existence since atleast March 2021 (the oldest capture I found).https://web.archive.org/web/20210306233532/https://www.doomworld.com/profile/4043-veddge/ I feel a bit like a weirdo investigating Veddge's account like this, but someone had to put that theory to rest :p 3 Share this post Link to post
Shaviro Posted March 28, 2023 This was absolutely amazing. Someone pointed me towards this wad without really saying anything about it other than I had never seen anything like it before. So I did a plain run through the "first map" and was sent back to Underhalls. At that point I was a bit perplexed at what all the hubbub was about, so I gave it another run and noticed the soulsphere through the window there. From then on I was hooked. What an experience. Easily one of the best times I've had with a wad/mod ever. I've always been fascinated with this kind of content and I've often dabbled a bit with it in my own works, but I've never had the "budget" to go all in on something like this and it's just amazing to see what they came up with. A few great great hours. Thank you! 7 Share this post Link to post

MoiraHeart Posted March 28, 2023 I feel like people giving that much praise to the horror aspect of the wad haven't been consuming much liminal space/analog horror content. Honestly, it pulls so much from the Backrooms culture is feels downright cheesy at times. ...That said, it doesn't mean that MyHouse isn't an enjoyable adventure map and an impressive effort. I wish for a sequel/spiritual successor that would focus less on reciting Backrooms and more on showing something completely unexpected. After all, the horror lies in the unknown. 6 Share this post Link to post
msx2plus Posted March 28, 2023 1 minute ago, MoiraHeart said: it pulls so much from the Backrooms culture is feels downright cheesy at times. agreed, though it didn't detract from the experience much for me. plenty of folks in this thread are citing House Of Leaves (older demographic would almost definitely be more familiar with it than the Backrooms), and in fairness, plenty of concepts present in anything Backrooms-related are kinda cornball House Of Leaves-isms. it's a never ending cycle and all that. this just happens to wear the Backrooms on its sleeves far more than the Backrooms wears House of Leaves. as you mention, it would be excellent to see it pull away from the concept and do its own thing. when it is doing its own thing, it's incredibly strong. 12 Share this post Link to post

coolhouse Posted March 29, 2023 I think I'm either not understanding something basic about Doom or I accidentally skipped something earlier in the map? Spoiler I'm following the wiki now to collect all the artifacts but even with the walkthrough I'm stuck on the tuna can. I'm in the upper vent that opens up over the large living room, it sounds like I'm supposed to jump to the top of the wall in the middle of the room but I can't make it across. Is it a matter of getting the timing / momentum just right or am I misunderstanding the instructions? 0 Share this post Link to post

The outside of the brutalist house is almost a 1 to 1 rendition of like a frame in a cgi backrooms video it's unreal. the noclip backrooms is exactly like the original text that strated the backrooms craze. even the cheat message text references that. I think it's all done realy well, with a message to convey and not just "don't call sonic to get out of the backrooms at 3 am". It almost feels like this wad was started in 2019 and finished now with how well it nails the backrooms feel 2 Share this post Link to post
The Civ Posted March 31, 2023 Spoiler Played this over the course of the last two nights and this really hit something in me that I don't think any other WAD has. I haven't been particularly active in the community for several years now and this is a hell of a thing to come back to. I think I'd have to mull it over longer to even really put into words exactly what chords this kind of thing strikes with me, but this is something that only a rare game that drops every four or five years or so hits so perfectly on the head. I've already recommended it to others under the guise that you shouldn't read the thread beforehand as well, but I do think a lot of this WAD, while impressive on its own right, really does grab you when you're familiar with the language of the game and know when you're seeing and feeling and doing things that you should not be doing in the game. Every part of this feels like an intrusion. Like I'm either seeing something I shouldn't have seen, or trespassing in places I shouldn't be. Not a feeling of being watched persay, but a feeling of unease from the game itself, like it's not even entirely sure what to do sometimes, like it's trying to adapt to someone who shouldn't be playing it. I've played through all endings and seen just about everything that's been documented, but I think of little things like punching the Berserk pack off the wall from the back of the closet, or running to the apartment across the way in Brutalist that has a TV that activates a TV in another part of the game, for seemingly no good reason, and I feel like there's going to be small bits of synchronicity and connecting threads between areas and details not noticed in this game for a long time. And I like that a lot. It feels like Doom's answer to LSD Dream Emulator or Yume Nikki, but with a level of depth and complexity wholly unique to Doom's own gameplay language and design, and presentation that can only be fully executed on a forum like this. Really can't wait to see others play this and wherever this project goes, or what discoveries are made in the future. Genuinely amazing work. 12 Share this post Link to post
