Chaingun nitpick

Recommended Posts

Recently I noticed something strange about the chaingun, specifically the fact that the pickup sprite depicts it as a magazine fed gun while the chaingunner uses an ammo belt. Even chainguns dropped by them have a magazine attached. Literally unplayable.

There are machine guns that can be fed from both linked ammunition (belt fed) and magazine loaded. So it isn’t really out of the ordinary.

The M249 SAW is an example of such a machine gun that can accept both methods of loading. It’s far from the only one but it’s the one I know off the top of my head.

Not only that, but the chaingunner still has his weapon in his death sprite, despite dropping it for the player to pick up.

Didn't really know that, lol. Thanks for clarifying that it's not a bug, but a feature.

It is actually a universe that uses videogame logic. Enemies spawn the pickups instead of them being directly linked to their inventory. Just like how archvile resurrected monsters can drop their ammo/weapon infinite times.

How about the zombiemen seemingly having infinite ammo but only dropping half a clip.

That's not an ammo belt, it's just a part of his fancy dress. Source: I am Adrian Carmack.

It's like a bullfighter's cape. This is also why the chaingunners are dressed in solid red.

It's not an ammo belt, it's a golden chain. There's a lot of money in killing Doomguys.

The chaingunner happens to be doing arm-expander exercises throughout Doom II, TNT, and Plutonia, and couldn't afford one of those nice spring-loaded ones.

Thus, that yellow thing is his yellow rubber arm-expander.

That's it. Doom failed to depict real life. Guess we can delete it from our hard drives and our lives. It is truly a grim day.

Something else about the chaingun is that it is often considered a light machine gun but that is not really possible seeing as it uses the same ammo as the pistol, which we can infer is 9×19mm Parabellum since the pistol is clearly meant to be an M9. This would make the chaingun technically more of a fictional full auto pistol-caliber-carbine (PCC) or a Sub Machine Gun (SMG), that is multi-barrel in design.

Oh my. So that's the reason chainguns does damage same to a shotgun. Cuz it fires 9mm

I was think the It fired custom tool cartridge

And costed 400000 dollars to fire the weapon for 12 second

And according to me the reason that the chaingunner uses mag fed or belt fed ammunition

Thats because there are 2 places to insert bullets

The mag way (easy but    - clip size)

The belt way  (Hard to setup but +clipsize)

Actually, every Zombieman has a different amount of ammo, they just happen to usually have 5 left by the time you kill them. This kid who sits at my lunch table told me he totally picked up a clip with 6 bullets one time, but it’s REALLY hard to do.

I'm pretty sure we know the same kid. His older brother knows how to do the Nudality with Sonya in Mortal Kombat, but his brother is a dick so he won't tell anyone else how to do it. And also, if you do the right button presses in Tomb Raider when you dive into water, Lara will totally take off her clothes and swim around naked.

Come on now, I have done that plenty of times, even picked up 7 bullets from zombiemen plenty of times.

Spoiler

Said 6 bullets per clip are from zombiemen in Struggle: Antaresian Legacy and 7 bullets per clip are from those in Valiant. :D

Why are the rest of the barrels shorter?

The Doom Chaingun is actually a revolver. You think it has six barrels? Noooooo, those are six rotating chambers. A bit longer than they need to be, but who cares? That short little nub that sticks out is the actual barrel.

Also how can anyone argue that the chaingun is magazine-fed when you never need to reload it? What you think of as a magazine is actually the Bullet Teleportation Device that grabs bullets straight from your backpack.

So guess doomguy uses the bullet chain method to load rounds and also magically adds more bullets to the chain

Just like how Ranger magically crams in two shells into the Double-Barrel shotgun at nigh-instant speed.
