Is it possible to upload a video file to a doom map?

Question

I’m making a doom map that has a little storyline to it and I want to make a cutscene that’ll play without me having to actually learn doom cutscenes. Anyway around this? Anyway I could just upload a small video file to play? If I have to learn cutscenes I will, but it all just seems very complicated at times.

Check out this ZDoom forums topic for playing video files in GZDoom: How to make .IVF cutscenes in GZDoom

There is also another method that involves a bit more work and scripting, but lets you play it during the level, see my post here for an example:

Thanks a ton actually. I’m going to definitely research this a bit more and see what I can figure out. Much appreciated 🙏

Cutscenes are relatively easy in UDMF/GZDOOM.

For other source ports / formats you may be looking to play a demo during a level, I'm not entirely sure if that's possible or not.

For UDMF/GZDOOM this is a great tutorial for the process:

ChubzDoomer's cutscene / moving camera tutorial.

Thanks a ton brother. I watch chubz often but just wanted to see if there was a simpler way of going about this.

It's April 2024 for now, been like 6 months since you made this thread, wanna know if your mod project is complete now?
