@OniriA hahah thanks for sharing and keeping busy at work - I can make it transparent no prob - fun times

@NightRiding Doom Thanks buddy - I think I got fortunate timing - nothing epic to compete with at this time, no my houses.wad - everyone seems to be overly nostalgic to remake the same 30 year old doom 2 maps with slight changes but I wanted to bring something as original to the table as I could. As for hard - yeah - I kind of catered to myself to what I could find challenging - dont forget them difficulty settings!

@TheShep ok - I see that - crate prject there - I was confused the way you were talking I thought you mapped for it - come to think of it - do you map? Might could check one out. In mean time been really enjoying your own playthus of my stuff - was fun to hang with ya last night - feel free to share that content here any time

@VanaheimRanger Thank you SO much for sharing this experience - I never knew about VR doom and it was so interesting to witness - the different kind of feel and movement and stuff - I really liked - glad to see it's manageable with it - thanks for also commentary as well it was fun listening to your thoughts and reactions - good times

You guys are giving me fun stuff to watch on this rainy day

Also I am super stoked I havent had to bug fix yet, but I'm sure the other shoe will drop. No changes 3 days after release has never happened for me, I thank my playtester team thorough playtesting, man I feel like I had a better playtesting crew than Romero did haha - awesome when ppl come together like this good tomes - feeling great

Nope, haven't mapped yet. Although I have a lot of people pushing for me to map, so it might happen one day. Good hanging last night too!

Sorry buddy. I know this was a wacky challenge level. You were close with all 3 keys all was needed was to run in and press the big button to crush the remaining barons. Or failing that wait for them to come out. It was a short tribute map to Baron door series lol but I get its not for everyone

There are other maps with more action and different concepts if you feel like level jumping or if not- well hey thanks for giving it a try and have a good night 🍻

I've played the first few maps and I'm loving it so far. I I can comfortably say that this is the style I usually look for when searching for Doom maps: something a bit vanilla, but which gradually gets my feet off the ground.
That said, congratulations on the megawad! I look forward to continuing to play soon.

Space Gymnasium seems to have left me soft-locked.

Am I seriously supposed to use uncontrollable massive Arch-vile jumps in the big room to fling myself at keys which I cannot see from the ground and certainly wouldn't be looking for from the map start? I couldn't even get onto the BFG ledge and I actually tried for that one.

If that's what I'm supposed to do, it requires a level of skill and patience I lack.

EDIT: Wait, when did I find a yellow key? I don't remember that.

You're over thinking it bud. Yellow key is available after Archie fight in one of the rooms. Use it to begin next stage. Other keys are now available to grab after fight - click on gray crates

Absolutely no archvile jumps are required for this map except to grab some optional secrets early that can also be obtained later

Let me know how ya make out 😄

Hey guys thanks again for giving this a whirl I'm still surprised I haven't really had any major issues to fix this is still the version I posted on release day

One issue however is the custom icon of sin alert noise I added seems to get cut off sometimes even though we change the sound priorities but maybe there's not much that can be done on that in lesser than GZ ports

Anywho with how well this is going I'll probably send it to the archives sooner than later

I'm also going to start my own full reveal playthru series since so many people had so many questions about my silly Maps and over the top secret hiding haha here's the first episode

The journey continues

Spoiler

MAP06 - wow, exploding crates!  By the time I got to that bit I was pretty beat up and wasn't able to fully capitalize on their explodiness from where I was (hitscans weren't triggering the explosions at a distance, or were just getting absorbed by all the knights and such), but was able to squish some cacos with them later.  That funhouse pit with all the flaming walls was madness, super frustrating for a moment until I played around and kind of got the idea of how to see what I was doing and get out of it.  Clever stuff

MAP07 - I was able to kill the hidden romero head and end the level early by way of a stray rocket pressing on the back side of that little exit pavilion.  Don't think that was supposed to happen (I'm playing through in DSDA btw). disregard all of this lol.  Like how it incentivized me not to kill all the mancs until I'd collected all the weapons and ammo on the tiny box stacks.  I think the maps are starting to train me in proper crate usage, it's definitely part of the fun of working through it.  Also, surprising to see a Clippy map with no real secrets! Were you ok when you made this lol

Thanks for playing more maps bud glad you got to take advantage of the exploding crates after all and worked through my silly tricks

As for map 7 - funny how you kept editing your post haha. You scared me cause this map gave me unexpected grief during development and still weird things happen.

Also the secrets thing: as much as I love Secrets this time I was so compelled with map designs that I was having a hard time squeezing them in so for this map I just figured I would mirror the original and have the secret sector be at the exit switch

Good Times buddy stay tuned for tomorrow Fried Chicken Friday I may have a surprise for you

I'm tingling with excitement--will be checking my postbox for fried chicken all day tomorrow

I played a few more.  Getting addictive (also when I go play other maps I'm starting to expect crates to do things that they normally don't)

Spoiler

Loved MAP08...the gimmick with evil archvile walls raising any monster that died near it was evil enough, but what really made it extra unnerving is that the archviles had enough freedom of movement that they didn't always raise them immediately as is usual with this trick.  I'd be minding my own business trying to get out of a lava pit or looking for secrets, and suddenly monsters start coming back to life, one by one.  Freaky stuff.  The exploding crates had their revenge on me here, didn't watch where I was shooting in the basement with the cybers and got blown nearly to death

Loved MAP09 too, I'm a huge sucker for big open maps like these.  Amazing how much mileage you got out of 32 cacos (well 33 counting the map itself--I was mostly done before I had to look at the automap and had to do a double take.)

MAP10 was nuts out the gate, I unfortunately did not get the BFGs up on the ledge but I did get thrown out the window and had a nice spot to grab the extra invulnerability and get rid of the archies.  Do you remember the old Safety Not Guaranteed meme on YTMND?  Btw I had a weird problem with that SILVER computer panel by the colored switches, I could kind of clip through the linedef with the computer texture on it but not actually get into the next room shown on the automap; instead I'd just see blank gray or somesuch HOM looking thing.  I think I have all the complevels set right now so not sure if that's a bug or what.

Haven't got to play MAP11 yet but can sure say there's not enough Dr. Pepper action going on in there

@Forgotten Soul nice to meet ya - I watched your first 2 vids - very nice! Yeah the lifts in map 1 lol - I know they can be hard to work with oops. Even I have a hard time with them. Another issue is that button does double duty as it also temp lowers the blue armour secret - so sometimes when you press it - it's lowering that but not the main platforms if they haven't risen all the way up yet. Oh well way she goes

@Stupid Bunny - Happy to hear you are having a good time map - thanks so much for detailing your journey. You know, more ppl will play and experience things than you ever know - so its nice to see ppl take time to leave thoughts.

8 - Cybers in the basement? You must have dreamed that one. yeah the archie zone worked out to be more devious than expected.

9 - Map inspired by Snax saying "Caco Accessible" There was originally much more cacos and they crowd you harder at the start but I dialed it down cause I know I went too far in a few places. Either way it was fun to make

10 - The high ledge inbulns and bfgs did turn out to be harder to get than expected - but if you get er and the outside one thats like 4 invulvs for you haha - they also come down in a secret later - when you said there was a weird texture, yeah that was by design but everyone thinks its a bug. Cant help myself lol. Not familiar with meme

Anywho I did up the IDGAMES text file I may submit it soon cause shockingly I havent had to fix anything. This is same file from release day

And I'll be making reveal vids eventually too to explain all the nonsense

Feel free to keep feedback coming and thanks, have a good one!

Happy Saturday everyone!

Guess what? Since I released this I haven't made a single change - which is amazing thanks to all the pre testing. Unless something is soft lockable of fundamentally broken - I think it's time - I sent it to the archives!

Also here is a map 2 reveal vid with a bonus insane speedrunning map skip idea you can try lol

Now, on a serious note, I think the trouble I had playing with the cat at the start is proof that this is a pretty vanilla megawad. I don't know if it's vanilla purist (I don't care about such things), but it certainly has a vanilla aesthetic and gameplay. It's the creativity of the maps that sets them apart and gives them a modern feel: It's on the list of wads that would have blown my mind if I'd played them as a kid, in a good way.

I started recording the video at least ten times until I got to the final one: had to mod your wad to allow jumping, and reduced the difficulty level (when none of this was necessary in my first playtest on UV). The first stage is impossible (for me) to play on other than the easiest levels using the mod, while the jumping mechanic allowed me to find the secrets of map 1 with unbelievable ease. Also, I only managed to finish the level because I cheesed the map.

After balancing everything for the mod, it was a fun experience. It's also a record of the megawad's balance at easier levels, since it's something we don't often test that much (I'm speaking for myself).

A few more.  Love how the concepts get loopier the deeper I go

Spoiler

MAP11: I already made my Dr. Pepper joke so I'll get right into it...I picked Coke first, and after grabbing the Pebis I feel like if there was a test then I've passed it.  Fun little microslaughter with the requisite reward of watching a whole lot of things die in a really surreal way at the end (that never gets old)

MAP12: I knew the second I watched that beautiful chain of barrels go winding off into the distance that there would be a swarm of archviles somewhere down the line to ruin my handiwork...but still somehow got caught off guard when I realized they were off having a run of the level while I was dawdling around looking at that amazing sea of barrels.  Also was amazed when I came to the pizza shop (I remember those tasty looking pizza) and found a lone zombieman had somehow survived the cataclysm.  Those are some beautifully drawn aliens btw

MAP13: Great little itty bitty concept map.  Did the aliens do this to me?  Look at all those barrels I missed the opportunity to detonate (also forgot to check if you still somehow had secrets lol, I'm doing terribly with the secrets running about 40%-70% per map on average.  Like I always say, something to look for when I revisit this)
