MP3 isnt supported (possibly due to library licensing). If you convert them to OGG it should work.

Thanks! I'll try that

You mean who thought it was a good idea to give casual players greater access to community works?

You must be new to the GZDoom community, who don't understand how their own source port of preference works, uploading something like Ghoul's Forest 3 and then whining in Steam discussions that Brutal Doom isn't supported, including not knowing what DOS is. It's a noble idea on paper, but with how it's currently implemented and this niche scene's questionable IQ as a whole this ain't it fam. I've got nothing further to add to this.

You understand you're quoting Scuba Steve, right? New to the community? Is this a troll post or something?

He was the editor here for /newstuff and the cacowards for several years. He knows precisely how modding works.

I'm gonna put two cents in here, this wad uploader that ID has created seems to do nothing good for anyone, they didn't even add a filter to type a name of a wad function, also mentioning nobody actually credits the original wad creator(s).

Also, on release day I saw Alien Vendetta uploaded 4 times in the space of 2 hours of checking wads to download... do we really need 4 copies or more of each wad? AND don't get me started on the descriptions of each wad, some of them that I skimmed over had gibberish as the txt for the wad. I liked the way it was it was done in the Unity port so if ID could go back to that method I'd happily change my opinion.

Sorry if someone already said what I've said here, I didn't see this thread till now.

Lmao I've been here for fourteen fkn years Eddie, I'd hope I know who "Scuba Steve" is based on some mod he made for ZDoom in the mid 00s, and yes it's a half-troll post, because it seems like the ignorance of GZDoom's player base is willfully ignored for some reason (but convenient when its needed for a lie regarding the reason for changing lighting modes) but your audience is only as good as your performers ig.

Anyway his post had an accusing tone that automatically assumed things about me bc I voiced some discontent for how the mod uploading is currently handled. Exhibit fkn A in how it's always the equivalent of pulling teeth with you mfs who are like this any time a valid criticism of something is made heard. I said this was handled poorly and wtf were they thinking when they did it like this, and with a reactionary impulse he only saw it from a surface level that insinuates that I must be against it completely(!!!) Nothing can possibly ever be nuanced or grey, it must only ever be viewed in lens of black and white. Very dangerous way to view the world.

And we wonder why these forums are so frowned upon and are on a steady downward tread towards dying, if not becoming completely niche at the end of time.

So, you mean the way you are viewing the world, right here below:

I mean, with attitudes like yours, I am starting to believe we really are headed that way.

I don't even like or care about the WAD Uploader and have no issues with your actual observations regarding it (including thinking it should not exist), but your attitude is not good or effective at convincing anyone of anything. I will also say that Edward's attitude was condescending and it was not the right way to respond to your post, either, though I don't exactly understand how else you expect anyone to react when you open by saying these people have low intelligence.

I've got a question. I've been trying to figure out how this new Kex engine Doom's WAD uploader and mod system works. I'm trying to get my seamless looping SC-55 music packs up. I've successfully put together a WAD file that overwrites the music, but when you select it in-game it only works for Doom 1. When you swap out to another game in unloads the mod. On top of that, trying to swap to another game (like Doom 2) and enabling the mod just relaunches Doom 1. Is there a way to force your custom PWAD to load a particular IWAD? Or even other PWADs? (like Master Levels for instance) Is there some kind of config file I need to add to the WAD maybe?

Right now I just have one giant music pack for everything and have left instructions in the WAD description on how to open the game console to enable the music pack manually for the other games. But I'd like it to just work for each game. I'll even make multiple WADs for each game title if I have to, but they'll obviously need to launch the right game when enabled and like I said, currently it just launches Doom 1 no matter what. Anyone have a solution?

I want a web site where you can upload 500mb pwads anonymously... doomshack was the most beautiful thing, I hope it gets fixed or whatever happened to it gets resolved.

I don't think antagonizing the devs here is gonna do anything. They're likely bound by NDAs or have the common sense to not promise anything on behalf of a whole team. Their dismissiveness on the issue is probably more out of obligation than them being ducks. Just get your problem out there and leave it at that.

That being said, a report button on its own is not a viable long-term solution. Give it a few months, and the mod page will balloon in size. Without a search, the likelihood of plagiarism being detected grows smaller and smaller; especially where less prominent WADs are concerned.

What's wrong with doomshack? I wouldn't worry about an expired ssl certificate, there's no sensitive information

As I was uploading Interception II through the in-game WAD Uploader, it kept giving me a success message but not uploading. Out of intuition, I shortened the description and uploaded the wad, then tried to replace the description via Bethesda.net. Turns out that the uploader was trying to flag lupinx-Kassman's name as vulgarity (probably because it includes the word 'assman').

I'd at least like an in-game error message thrown if vulgarity is going to be flagged, but it's also ridiculous that this word is flagged despite being part of someone's username. Is Bethesda.net using the right regex?

For what it's worth, I've also seen it fail because the readme included the word "assets".  I think the vulgarity filter literally just checks for letter strings.

steph sterling rules. i like how she cuts straight to the root of the problem without any time spent on forum wars/whatever. all these big games companies have extensive histories of fucking everything up, everything getting worse after they get involved etc

Having just one more extra line with "Author" would be much welcome metadata. The uploader is most often irrelevant.

It is funny that this situation did not happen in their respective communities of fallout or elder scrolls, and that something like this would not happen either in the vast majority of games on the market except specifically in Doom, because Doom is one of the few games whose community considers modding authorial pieces of artistic expression. In the others? Who cares if Legolasas69 made a mod to see Karlach's boobs.

Except it explicitly did, here's an old post (unfortunately from reddit) discussing the matter at the time.

Hundreds of mods were uploaded sans credit on the initial launch, especially those of the pornographic varieties, typically hidden under innocuous names with false thumbnails.

I used to be one of the killjoys reporting them, eventually Bethesda moderation actually stepped into gear.
