Congrats on the release! I'm currently flying over the Pacific Ocean, looking for fish.

On M06. No bugs to report so far, good to hear NaZa still makes maps, they were of inspiration back when the Pigeon Sessions were a thing (lol), enjoying the variety but I can tell these are speedmaps (with the exception of 05, that really demonstrates how working under pressure can lead to some interesting combat).

I'll post more refined thoughts on the set as a whole but I figured I'd comment now because this is certainly pretty cool. Good job ppls!

Scattered Thoughts on Scattered Thoughts:

-Everything up to M08 and also M11 is accessible enough for the average Joe, at least on HNTR for me anyway. Overall, feels a lot like a polished ASS session with nu-age technology in this weird era of Doom mapping we're in that feels highly individualized due to all the outcroppings of various mapping teams such as this one popping up and existing in a post-Synthesis era. I played on CheesyDoom and nothing seemed out of order (except for one thing which I'll get to). My favorite maps were probably 02, 04, 05, and 08 (sorry Yumheart, it's a pretty damn good map (but I see what you did there)) and everything else pre-09 is really good IMO.

10 is really goddamn extreme, and I love it conceptually and the inner mapper in me loves that it exists but as an average-at-best Doom Player, I had to cheat. No shame though! I can only respect the concept all that much more.

09 was really hard and omg the monster count was so high -

wait

the midtex grates at the beginning you can just.... walk through and sneak your way around the rev-pits to exit in 12 seconds?

YOU CAN'T SAY I WAS CHEATING! :p

So yeah, probably fix that. Also make sure there's actually a RL in 11, I probably just missed it but can't hurt to check.

Good fun for a day.

I think this might be a GZDoom bug? The walls are marked as "block player", and they seem to function correctly in Woof. Doesn't matter though, I'm glad you had fun with the set :)

Make sure you set the "Disable MBF21 features" compatibility flag off (it's in the map/action behavior submenu). The default compatibility and MBF21 presets have it off, but most of the other presets turn the flag on.

In my defense, I usually do play on DSDA-Doom so I take complevels for granted and GZDoom AFAIK is kinda janky with anything that isn't their baked-in default.

Thanks for the tip!

Very good maps, easy to blow through in an hour and be left wanting for more. Nice variety, both in visual themes and gameplay.

edit: included RC1 in zip.

Edited the thread to include both releases in the interest of letting people see legacy demos :)

Fun and quirky mapset, currently tackling MAP06. Still quite challenging I'd say! I encountered an issue in map 4, a couple monsters didn't teleport in. Here's the screen:

After finishing it, my impression is mostly positive: nice variety in aesthetics and gameplay, lots of creative approaches here. However, I'm going to question Ludi's description of this being an "easier affair". Maybe it holds for the first 8 maps, but 9, 10, and 11 are quite aggravating. MAP09 is perhaps the last one where I felt I had at least some degree of control over the chaos; 10 and 11 absolutely wrecked me even with saves. I know 11 has a lot of big goodies lying around but in practice it's really tough and as far as I could tell you can't backtrack. This last stretch is probably much more doable with practice but I got pretty dispirited in the same way that I gave up on Spectrum Descent relatively early on (I'm stubborn and play on UV almost exclusively).

'Astral Grotto' feels like an interesting easter eggy map which I couldn't quite figure out, I assume a squeeze glide is necessary to progress early on or something like that. As a Metroid fan I really appreciated the use of Maridia music from SM. Fine work overall with some balancing issues near the finish line.

That statement moreso refers to the wad being easier to develop than it being an easy wad.

That's a shame, maybe it's just me playing those maps a bunch, but I honestly found Scattered Thoughts to be more difficult than Spectrum overall.

Thank you for the feedback!

Will probably get back to Spectrum Descent at some point but when I first played it I got to around map 10 and simply felt a bit drained and in need of more general Doom practice. Thanks for the reply!

These were fun little spicy maps!  Couldn't figure out map 13 after shooting an eye switch, but I assumed it's just a weird bonus map and skipped it.  Great work!
