Lots of Rage

Recommended Posts

Your health always regenerates up to ~25% (or a bit less, health bars aren't exactly easy to read), and in some maps you start with full health. You can get by on that if you avoid getting hit by the more powerful enemies.

I could argue that it makes the resurrection part as optional as saving, but I actually agree with you. Having to impose artificial rules on yourself to make a game more fun and challenging should never be necessary.

Regenerating health OTOH can work just fine. Chronicles of Riddick, Saboteur, Saints Row 2, Halo 1, Mass Effect...

I've only played Halo of those, and I wasn't terribly impressed by the regen health in it. It made Legendary possible for me since I could just keep ducking in and out of cover. It wasn't a matter of me being skill full. Just very patient. :p
I've heard good things about several of those games though. So I probably should get them and try them, at least to see how Regen health can be a good thing.

Max Payne did have a regen health that I could get behind though. It regenerated similar to how you described Prey doing on Cherokee. It allows the health to regenerate enough to let you get out of otherwise impossible situations. Rather than just bulking yourself up to full charge.

Then there's Gears of War, a game that I never actually had any issue with the regenerating health. But it was because the game as a whole was focused on cover that the regenerating health just worked with that. Unfortunately, I think it's also GoW that made every other game decide to do the same. So fuck you GoW, fuck you very much. :p

NecroVision from 2008 and 2009 interestingly combined recharging health and health packs.

In it, your health only recharges up to about half. You have to use health pickups to fill the rest.

I bought Necrovision from a bargain bin and played it right through. I could go into details but, it tried to be about 3 or 4 different game types all melded into one and, IMO, consequently failed to satisfy as any of them.

Even shorter version: I thought that it was shit.

I'm glad I only paid a bargain bin price for it.

am I the only one who doesn't give a damn about the health system or the post-apocalyptic setting and thinks this game just looks kick-ass?

No, you're not the only one; yes, it looks kick-ass.

I agree with those above statements as my opinion about Rage has not change: It looks awesome and I look forward to playing it once it finally releases.

Resistance (2006) had a health bar divided into quarters. It would auto-heal up to every 25% interval, with health packs giving you a full bar.

I think this system would be neat to try in an arcade-ish Doom mod, since it seems to speed up gameplay a lot. In Doom I often zone out and wind up with <10% health, at which point all you can really do is sneak around and scrounge up health.

Yeah, Resistance wasn't too bad with it. What's ironic is that the sequel did away with the bar system and allowed you to make a full recovery from health regeneration.

Yes some people take their gaming seriously, some people take a release from an important developer like id seriously, so if that bothers you, perhaps piss off?

No, you piss off. Gaming and seriousness do not belong in the same sentence, unless there is a "not" somewhere in there too. It's a GAME. It's something you PLAY. For FUN. You're ruining it for yourself and everyone else around you by making it SRS BSNS. Wait until it comes out, play it, and if you don't enjoy it, stop playing it. It's that simple. Oh, and STOP WANKING ABOUT IT.

If they're pandering to the consoles, I have no problem with this. that means I don't have to build a damn supercomputer to play it.

Seeing how you graciously omitted the part where spending money is involved, I suppose you're still living in your mother's basement.

Agreeing with Csonicgo, for once. My computer was really something about five years ago, but nowadays struggles on the newer games - and in this economy, I can't pay to buy a new one. Better to just enjoy the game on what hardware I've got around - and since I own a 360 and PS3, probably better to get one of those versions instead of getting the PC version thinking it'll have mods, and come home with an impressive-looking game that runs like a slideshow.

I'm remaining cautiously skeptical. Unfortunately, they have regen health too.

I'm also going to be skeptical of getting it, if it relies on cheap survival tactics such as waiting and wasting time. Regeneration should only exist if the fight is literally non-stop.

What's this regeneration nonsense? Last time I checked, people who are pock-marked with bullet and shrapnel holes had a tendency to die.

Just because you don't give a crap and will gladly consume anything that's thrown at you doesn't mean gaming isn't serious business for other people.

"Your whole arm's off!"

*looks*...."No it isn't."

All these modern regeneration FPS games need to just change "Space Marine" or "Apocalypse Survivor" to "Wolverine" and be done with it.

Obviously. Not that I "consume anything that's thrown at me". I simply don't whine online about those I don't.

Usually whining, complaining and criticizing is the work of the free mind with a free speech that doesn't want to be controlled, and I call that a positive part of human nature.

It's probably because I've yet again confused Doomworld as a discussion forum, whereas I should focus more on impressing people with my sardonic wit by peddling tired internet memes.

Crappy CONSOLE'D games like Wolfenstein 2009.

I'm not ready to claim Wolfenstein sucked cause it was developed cross platform, when it could easily have sucked just from sloppy design, regardless of what platform carried it. However I agree with you, that if it turns out the PC version of Rage is gimped as a result of its console brothers, I'll be kinda pissed, and this is coming from someone who doesn't own a computer that can even touch the game.
