The big barrel is a water tank that gets refilled as it rains. The picture was taken at a rest place along the Bibbulmun trail. We only walked 17km of it. But the entire trail is 1000km.

Doesn't surprise me, they don't ride at all well on the handlebars and with the weight distribution shifted towards the front wheel you have to brake with care. I suggest you build yourself a Sociable.

that's pretty much identical to what happened to me. The deer is the same size and I hit it in the same spot. Only difference I was on a road bike going down a hill and the deer came from the left, not the right.
