The Official 'Trying to Find a Specific WAD' Thread

Back in 1996 I got my first PC and a D!Zone CD with The Ultimate Doom. A few months later I got Doom 2

 

Played a Megawad that added a final level with the Icon of Sin but you had to like walk down a staircase to get to it. It was packed full of monsters, one of the first packs of levels I had played besides just individual levels.

 

I think it was called EOS or EOD or something. I managed to track it down in the early 2000s I think but forgot the name again

Looking for a MAP OVERLAY mod of some kind.

 

I was playing  DSDA-Doom Source Port recently and  really liked the way you could make the "black" part of the map view transparent. Is there any mods for gzDoom that do a similar thing. I would prefer that is all they do and not add a ton of monsters and levels and other things.

 

I know there are setting in gzDoom to make a "hover map".. but it would be sweet to have a mod, so you could hotkey the overlay map and still have the traditional map as well.

You don't really need a mod for this; you can do a lot of things with ZDoom's console.

 

Technically, every binding in ZDoom is a console command; every setting is a console variable. For instance, the map overlay setting is am_overlay. You could type something like this in the console:

alias ov_map "am_overlay 2; togglemap"
alias bg_map "am_overlay 0; togglemap"
alias ov_switch "am_overlay 1; togglemap"
bind O "ov_switch"
bind M "bg_map"
bind P "ov_map"

Now you can press M for the normal map view, P for the overlay map, and even O to switch between both.

I've had a wad tainting my dreams for a bit it's a Doom 2 map, but before the popularization of monster placement found in Final Doom.

One level is a dark criss-cross sewer level where there's nukage in the main part of the floor, but it's of an intersectional design. There's little brown edges that you can run along and the sewage is just wide enough for you to stand in, but there's no rad suits. There's teleports in each corner of the sewer area that lead to an office building complex that tends to cause tutti frutti or visplane errors on original dos because someone tried to render a whole floor of cubicles over a large room.without any of the walls extending up to the ceiling. There are hallways that connect other sides of the floor and the elevator is the exit. It's not Going Down, that came out way after.

The other level I only recall a small piece of it. It's outdoors with white rock textures on the perimeter walls, water in the center of the map with either green brick or green marble leading up to a lone skull switch behind a plasma rifle and a Mancubus/Archvile face door further behind the switch almost on the other side of the room. The door is surrounded by the square white light texture that goes on walls in the alcove before the door. You open the door with the switch and there's a large cell pack and an arachnatron. Ground is brown brick, and I want to say the sky is the hellish sky from the later levels of Doom 2.

Have I made these levels up, or do they exist somewhere? I'd like to play them.

Anyone know the wad for doom 2 that had anime girl pinups at the end level score screen and had a different one for each level but the wad had custom weapon skins too. I think it was made in the late 90s early 2000s. I forgot the name of it so no idea if it was a full megawad or not.

This thread constantly reminds me on how in my pwad in the works I'm just going to recreate what I played almost a decade ago...some wad I downloaded had a pew of imps and a Baron preacher at the pedestal, was very church oriented they didnt become active as you entered the room, allowing you to soak in the hellish atmosphere...very tight and unforgiving room to fight in, so just leaving was best...was just a really great scene...it was on a laptop I crashed and almost seven years later I still think about that room it was so good...it probably is on idgames for that's the only place I can recall downloading from at the time ...I hope i can recreate it eventually.

Are there any existing MODs that add the new monsters and weapons from Legacy of Rust to Doom2? So nothing is replaced. For example, you still have a plasma gun and power cell ammo and stuff. gzDoom is fine, even if it is the only target port.

Legacy of Rust Enhanced may be what you're looking for

Was looking in my Doom midi collection and noticed an untitled folder full of untitled midis and while I recognize the midis as ones I've heard before, I can't for the life of me remember what wad they're from.
