Martinoz Posted November 6, 2022 The last added map (Hate Never Dies) is a truly difficult experience I must admit, while having only a few secrets (2) it is surely the most difficult one from the list. Never felt so stumped by the enemies in different arenas, even the beginning kicks ass. Mine only gripe are the health pickups and maybe the ammo in final arena. 3 Share this post Link to post
Soulless Posted November 7, 2022 Last map was really cool indeed, even though the final arena was a bit grindy but truly epic at the same time. So, is Argent D´nur a possible map that ends After Doom? Anyway thanks for the work, amazing map pack. 1 Share this post Link to post
00_Zombie_00 Posted November 8, 2022 @Martinoz @Soulless thanks for commenting guys, you are very kind. Soon I will add a soulsphere in the final part, which will be enabled every time the player exterminates a wave of monsters. and I will also give more ammo for the powerful weapons (rocket and plasma). 2 Share this post Link to post
bowserknight Posted March 6 I saw this wad in a random video and thought it looked really cool, so without spoiling anything I decided to try it out myself. Overall I really like this one, since I'm a big fan of Doom 64 and I noticed that this one seems to take lots of inspiration from it, as well as using sound effects / music from that game. At first I thought it would be more of a horror experience but halfway through it kind of turned into a heavy metal shooting fest (mostly talking about the smaller city map with the allied marines), just to turn back into a more dark / scary theme. A few times I had the feeling like the wad doesn't really know whether it wants to be scary, moody, or if it wants to be more action-based. But a mix of both works too. There were lots of cool sections and some genuinely scary rooms (especially with the giant Pinkies who look scary as fuck, and also all the rotten enemies later on) but I gotta be honest, of all the maps, I found the first one to be the most memorable one. Very cool secrets, scary atmosphere and the whole intro section is awesome with the timestop effect. I also find it interesting that this map has 2 secrets, the 2nd one being hidden and is just there to scare you. All maps after that are cool too but they feel more like "normal" maps, but with a dark atmosphere. Don't know how to explain it really. Difficulty-wise it was mostly relatively easy with tons of ammo, I was stacked on ammo nearly all the time. The only time I ever was at the risk of running out was towards the end, especially the final map. Difficulty and lack of weaponry ramped up significantly in there. Only real issues I had was well, the darkness in some places. In most cases the darkness works well but especially in the map "Deep Darkness of Hell" I found myself being a little annoyed, actually spending a lot of time on the automap because I just couldn't see in a few spots. I like the secrets in these maps but even with the Computer Area Map that you can find in every level, I wasn't able to find some of them. Apparently I also missed quite a few secret enemies / mini bosses, judging by the credits map. 2 Share this post Link to post
prossnip42 Posted May 7 This has to be one of the best and most detailed interpretations of hell i've seen in this engine. Stellar work good sir 2 Share this post Link to post
Lila Feuer Posted May 8 This looks cool but about your play information tab regarding sector light mode being dark... Spoiler If you're making your own map, you can set it to Dark with the "lightmode" MAPINFO field -- see https://zdoom.org/wiki/MAPINFO_options_for_GZDoom's_GL_renderer , Dark is "lightmode = 3". You may want to reupload your wad for one tiny change, since the devs universally agreed on reducing the lighting mode options on offer for the player. I guess they didn't have the foresight to predict how this could cause problems for legacy releases. 0 Share this post Link to post

Are you saying that by playing this, the lightmode stays at "dark" even when playing other wads? 0 Share this post Link to post
Lila Feuer Posted May 9 3 minutes ago, bowserknight said: Are you saying that by playing this, the lightmode stays at "dark" even when playing other wads? This recommends dark mode, a lighting mode that has been relegated to MAPINFO, since this predates a change in GZDoom it will now only be viewable through the lighting modes available, none of which are dark. It's map definable now though yeah, so if it was implemented this wad would always be dark, regardless of your lighting mode settings. Which in itself could cause issues still and alienate some players, even if it's the "intended" vision. It'd be nice to simply just, have the option instead of it being hidden like a lot of modern UI tends to do now with basic functions. 1 Share this post Link to post

If you mean if this map pack will have continuity, the answer is yes, in fact I can continue making new maps, I just need to finish before other projects that are helping me to learn how to use new tools to make better maps and new enemies. I don't know if I answered your question right, sometimes I find it hard to understand the English language and the translator sometimes does strange things. Update: life is getting complicated, I don't know if there will be more maps Edited June 27 by 00_Zombie_00 1 Share this post Link to post

But how does this thing work with project brutality? I thought it doesn't work with other mods. How do I load After Doom with kinds like project brutality or brutal doom platinum? I have finished this in plain gameplay without any mods but I really want to try it with Brutal Doom or Project Brutality. 0 Share this post Link to post

I recommend you to use "DoomRunner" to be able to load the mods in the correct order. You must respect this order of the mods: Brutal Doom or the mod of your choice first. Second the map pack and third, if you want you can put a mod that replaces the music. 1 Share this post Link to post

Ahh this order is working fine, thank you very much! Last time I tried loading I got error but working very weirdly like the bosses aren't spawning in the final map. I've just completed it yesterday, so now can't wait to play the next maps. Good luck on your mapping :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Goldar Posted September 17 (edited) I actually had no problem running After Doom and Brutal Doom through GZDoom (that semantic satiation, though). I'm also glad to hear of the possibility of further additions to this wad - i've revisited it several times and it still creeps me out, but not so much that i'm not having a good time! 0 Share this post Link to post

Captain Sickomode Posted October 28 (edited) damn, one of my top 5 favorite wads just got a new update when I thought it was finished. splendid! edit: I partially expected the new levels ending but it was still a pleasant surprise Edited October 28 by Captain Sickomode 0 Share this post Link to post

DOOMENSTEIN Posted October 30 Am I doing something wrong here? I downloaded it from the first link provided in your thread-starter and I'm not seeing any actual maps when I run it GZDoom. I IDCLEV'ed through nearly all of them and just see standard Doom 2 maps, but ambient music starting at MAP07. I don't see anything specific in the README or in this thread unless I scrolled right by it. Am I missing something? 0 Share this post Link to post
