Perdition's Gate Resurgence (Midis needed)

Yes, feel free to make something. Just as a reminder this project is aiming for vanilla compatibility, also maps are to be made in the style of the original map authors Tom Mustaine & Jimmy Sieben. If you need help with any of those aspects feel free to ask, & if all else fails I've made changes to many of the maps in this project to get them were they need to be.

 

Also custom midis are greatly appreciated as we are still quite a few short of where we need to be.

So I've been working on my maps the last days, taking cues from the rest of the mapset:

 

Map06 doesn't have mayor layout changes, just made some areas taller, more defined lighting and it's now more in the open:

Honestly... I am surprised that the Project is still active.

 

When I found out about the Unofficial Sequel to "Perdition's Gate", I began to look forward to its release. And now, at the end of 2023, I began to worry a little about the Fate of MEGAWAD. And I liked the Original, which I dedicated my Review to (In Russian).

 

Therefore, for the sake of interest, I would like to know: "Is it still at the Alpha stage after 8 years, or is there a chance that the Project will be abandoned?"

Technically we've only been in the Alpha stage for 3.5 years :P

 

Yeah it's taking a long time, but it is still being worked on, just very slowly. I've not gotten any status updates from Wraith or Heretic926 about their maps so I really don't have any set date for a final release though. One thing I will stand firm on though is that I won't let this project drag on for another year, this project will release in 2024, no exceptions.

@Jaws In Space Yeah, about that... I think it's better if I drop my slot - I've been involved in too many other community projects (rookie's mistake on my part, not gonna lie) and I completely forgot about this one. Makes me feel bad that this project is going stale because of my lack of involvement. Sorry about that :\

Hey everyone, just another small update. dt_ has recently finished a new map 04, so that leaves only map 30 as being yet unfinished. The plan is still to release this project before 2025, so that gives us 7 months to finish things up.

 

In the meantime is there anyone who would like to make a few midis for this project? There needs to be some rearranging of the current track list & we are still about 10 midis short of a completely original soundtrack.

Hey everyone, it time for anther update, this one's a bit more exciting than the past few. I've recently gotten confirmation that Map 30 is being worked on & will likely be finished in August or September. I've been hard at work this week making several updates to the wad & finishing off the story text for the intermission screens, among many other things. There are several midis being worked on by Cammy, Plerb, Stuart Rynn, & Tristan Clark, it looks like we may get just enough to fill out all 32 maps. So we are well on out way to releasing Perdition's Gate Resurgence this year with an estimated release date anywhere from October 31st to December 31st.

this is really unique in the realm of community sequel wads mostly being for the official levels or popular community megawads. mainly because PD isn’t really acknowledged as much nowadays

Yeah this really is quite the niche project. Perdition's Gate was held back for quite some time on Doomworld as posting a link to the wad was an instant ban until about 20 years after it's release. Since Tom Mustaine confirmed that rights to the wad had reverted to him & he doesn't care if people post share the wad it's gained popularity thanks to folks like 4shockblast & MtPain27. Still though even as far as community sequels go this project is still kind of an outlier, other sequel wads like Hell Revealed 2, Plutonia 2, TNT: Revilution, & TNT: Devilution all take their series in new directions where as with PGR I've decided to go with a sequel that is extremely faithful to the original wad, sort of a what if Tom, Jimmy, & Mackey had all stuck together & released a real Perdition's Gate 2 in 1997. It's certainly made this project one of my most difficult to lead so far as not only is there a rather low interest in creating maps for such a wad, there is also the fact that those who due join are subject to very strict guidelines.

Just wanted to stop by and say hello. Hope all is going well. Perdition's Gate gets some mixed reactions from what I've seen, but I always enjoyed it. It's still one of my favorite old school megawads. Never understood why a project like this hadn't been taken seriously before. I love that you are keeping original textures; I quite like them. The sky from PG's opening level is still one of my favorite skies to date. Despite the relative obscurity of this project I am patiently looking forward to it and I wish you the best. May you see it through to the end.

Perdition's Gate Is one of my all time favorite megawads and i been following this thread since i first noticed it last year. I'm looking forward to playing this when it is fully released.
