OLD NEWS

April 26, 1999(5:10pm)
It's my Birthday (=]) so this is going to be a short update. I need to hear back from Julian Arbourgh, Nikklas Linnes, and especially Matt Denham, as well as anyone else who hasn't written me recently. In other news the item sprites are still progressing although I've run into a slight setback with the weapon sprites.
That's all for now although I'll be updating again real soon...

Alright everybody get ready for a big ass update...
As you've probably noticed I've overhauled the site a bit...sure, it's not as elaborate as Doomworld's change but it does look quite a bit better than it has for the last couple months. The main page for this site has been changed to www.doomworld.com/hellstorm/ascension.html so change your bookmarks. Oh, and just in case anyone was wondering where Doomworld got those annoying hamster from, here's the original site (www.hamsterdance.com).
Everyone on the team should have recieved an e-mail from me by now, anyone who hasn't should let me know. The e-mails mention that the new texture wad has been uploaded and where to find it as well as the newest version of the information text file. Anyone who hasn't recieved anything from me, who thinks they should, can e-mail me at my new adress; cryptic0@home.com.
If you remember a few months back, Doomworld came up with a contest for .wav file teasers for the various projects which died shortly thereafter. Anyone looking at this page with Internet Explorer and speakers has already heard ours...for those of you not using explorer, here it is.
All right, I've said it before and I'll say it again...WE NEED SPRITE ARTISTS. If you have experience with graphics programs and can do reasonably professional looking sprites we want to hear from you. If nobody replies I'm going to have to go out and start recruiting.=]
If you check out the "Monsters" section you'll notice a new sprite preview for Hellhound as well as some modified versions of others. In related news, I've also finally managed to scan in the Hellhound sketch.
Regaring the project directly, the non-monsters sprites are coming along very well and should be finished soon although the weapon and monster sprites are still going to take quite awhile.

If any of the team members still haven't gotten the texture wad e-mail me and I'll tell you where to get it. Speaking of the texture wad I'd like to take this opportunity to publicly apologize to Ola Bjorling. It seems that I inadvertantly placed a modified version of one of the Overload skies into the texture wad. Even though those skies were never ment to make it to the final release they definitely won't now. Again, I want to apologize, I know how pissed I'd be if someone ripped off my work. I also want to thank Tobias Forsberg for bringing that to my attention.

I'm back! Sorry everyone, my cable modem fried itself about a month and a half ago and only just recently got fixed, I've finally been able to mail and upload FTP in the last few days, but don't worry, I've kept up date with what's been going on in the Doom Community from time to time. If anyone out there has sent me an e-mail in the last couple months and hasn't received a reply by now there's a good chance it's been lost. If you've kept a copy of the message please send them again.
I especially want to apologize to Len Pitre for having to put up with the constant delays on the textures (which were actually pretty much finished about a month ago). I actually just got word from Len just tonight that the texture wad has been completed already. So all the mappers can relax, it is finally out (if you haven't heard from me already about how to get your hands on I'll be mailing you shortly).
As you may have noticed the look of the page has changed a bit and you can expect it to change even more now that I'm back. I think we'll keep this simplified look for a few weeks though (hey, be thankful for the faster loading time =]).
I've completely redone the sketches for the Hellhound and Incarnate since I still can't find the old ones. I've gone for a new look with the Incarnate, more in the spirit of H.R. Giger. You can look for those within the next few days.
More good news; Pixel has decided to join the team. He'll be doing a level or two once he's finished with some of his other commitments.
I'm going to take this time to re-empasize our need for sprite artists, I can't do them all myself (hey, I'm good...but not that good =]).

I've done a little work on the monsters page as well as symplifying the team page quite a bit.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

October 26, 1998 (12:08am)
Sorry, I know that I promised the sketches for the Hellhound and Incarnate more than a month ago but I'm afraid they've been lost, I'll post them as soon as I find them.
Now, onto the news:
Well, this site has recieved more than 4300 hits! Thanks to "Loco Motive" for sending in a Screenshot of number 4000. It looks like Len Pitre will be putting the texture wad together for me since I know I'll never be able to find the time at this rate (hopefully this means that the level designers will be able to get it their hands on it soon). We've been thinking of putting in the ability to run .xmi music files into the engine, but this still might take awhile to be decided on. We were also toying with the idea of switching over to ZDoom for awhile although at this point I'm pretty sure we'll be sticking with Boom.
I have good news as well; it looks like Tobias Forsberg, Nikklas Linnes, and Brian Goodsell will be joining the team. The project is coming along very well even though I, myself, have been too busy to contribute anything for awhile now and probably won't until after Halloween. A reminder to all the level editors that I need to know which maps you'd like to do. And lastly I want to say that I may have exagerated (slightly) in my September 2 update...there is something coming. Now, whether or not it will affect everyone in the Doom community is doubtful but I'm sure at least a few of you will notice.=]
