"You thought you had left it all behind; the human sacrifice, the unholy rites, the evil of your own soul. You had met a woman, married her, and raised a family you loved with all your heart and soul. You thought you had escaped, and except for the nightmares your life seemed relatively...normal. Then they came. In the night like spiders emerging from the shadows. They held you and forced you to watch as they slit the throats of your wife and children. Their message was simple; no one leaves, there is no escape. Not after the things you had seen, the promises you had made. Your soul had already been pledged to the darkness and if you couldn't accept that then you would be made to suffer before you died. They had left you with only powers of your own birthright, your tears, and your need for vengeance!"

You play the part of Jacob Darkholme, a former member of the Order of Anagarok, an ancient and secretive cult. As punishment for your desertion, assassins are sent to kill you and your family. To your intended killers surprise you survive, killing the three robed cultists in a horrible and creative fashion that is all too familiar to you...but at the loss of your wife and children. With the death of your family, the only people on Earth that you cared for, your soul becomes dark and hollow.
Gathering your belongings and an ancient family relic known as the Guantlet of Darkness, you head to the airport and board a charter for Ashwood, a small town in lower Maine, that serves as a front for the Order. Unknown to you, the Order has been secretly consolidating its strength for the last few years in an effort to bash open the Gates of Hell an allow their true master to step through and conquer this world.
Now you, your heart filled with only with thoughts of revenge, must wander throught the thick forests of Maine, endless ancient temples, and into the very heart of Hell itself in order to end the blight of Anagarok and his minions. You may be in for even more than your vengeance can handle...
