  1. I just had to come back and see what has been going on in the Doom Community! I've been away far too long...real life gets you at times, but I sure have missed the community! I've missed playing Doom so I broke out the games tonight and played for a while...wow! I loved playing the good stuff! There may be some "old farts" here as well that remember me...drop a line and say hi! Just to re-introduce myself and not be rude, I was very active in the community way back when. I was a member of TeamTNT and worked with Ty Halderman and was involved in a few of their projects as a level designer, great bunch of people to work with. I started the original "Community Chest" project and was still involved up through Community Chest 2, but not as much as with the original Community Chest, after that the community took over and they created some great stuff! I was never the most brilliant guy on those projects and I couldn't have pulled it off without some great guys contributing and working hard on it! Anyway, it's great to be a part of the Doom Community again! After I catch up and bring myself up to speed I may even get back into making some maps...who knows? I need to read and update myself on the editors in use today! Any suggestions for a simpleton like me?

I've been gone a long time....

Yes..I thought so too but TGH wanted it and I was okay with that, besides I was being very lazy anyways...:)

Great to hear from all of you! Thank you so much...:) I'll be looking at the suggestions for editors and go from there!
  5. I played alot of coop! What fun...man I remember the Dwango servers, jeez I'm old! Used to have LAN parties with my buds back in the day! Playing on a 14.4 modem, then moved up to 28.8 and the a 56k modem...oh man, what speed! Hahahahahaha!
  6. Just popped back on after a long absence....saw this topic and let's see, I started with Doomcad then moved into DETH and then ZETH, used Deepsea shortly therafter. Used Zennode for a while as well. Trying to get the old brain cells fired up and retrieve my archives...hard work!

    Community Chest 5

This is Cadman, if you don't know me I was the guy that started the idea of the original Community Chest project all those years ago. I had some great help along the way and you the community kept it going, thanks to all involved! I saw an old thread that talked about the possibility of a CC5...the last post was back in 2013, so I was looking at some feedback, good or bad...your thoughts on the possibility of a CC5. First off, I know there a many projects already going on out there...some will come to fruition and some will be vaporware projects. The original Community Chest I intentionally kept simple so we could finish it in a reasonable amount of time. I'm curious on your comments and to see if the interest is there for this. I don't know if Use3d, Green Herring or ALeaver is still around...let me know what you think, thanks everyone!

    Community Chest 5

The Green Herring has been doing a fantastic job! I never meant any dis-respect to him in any way...I started this thread because I was curious on where the series was going. I haven't had a chance to read every single thread on this subject, you know how that goes...:) At the time it just seemed as if it died off a little and I was trying to generate the interest back in something I was so passionate about when I started this way back when! Man do I feel old! From me personally...it is an emotional thing I have for this project, that's why I started it...my love for this game keeps me coming back for more! My whole goal for this was to give the opportunity for known and unknown mappers to showcase their talents and for a lot of those folks who never had a chance to be a part of a big project...not everyone had the opportunity to be a part of TeamTNT like I did and be a part of their many projects. I just wanted to give back to all of you! My rules were simple in the first project, nothing complex. I wanted to give people the opportunity to create something without overloading them with this that and the other thing...I was the "pusher" in the original project...read the original thread from back then and you'll see...I didn't create the levels, or the new textures, the opening screens and the such...I let the "Community" do it so it was their baby! They get all the credit. My hats off to Use3d, Rex and many others too numerous to name for making the original a success! (I miss Magikal) My hat also goes off to The Green Herring for keeping it going! Thanks man! He brought up some valid points earlier in the thread...but here's my take, TGH stepped up and took it and made it work...throughout the series I've noticed that many people wanted to be a leader in the project but for one reason or another they backed out...TGH stayed with it and for that I thank him...he kept it alive! Thanks for hearing me out everyone! BTW...I'm still here if needed!

    Community Chest 5

Well, I guess that answers it...good luck with the project. I will back away from it...Cadman will continue with his project...thanks everyone.
  11. When I first started contemplating the idea of the "Community Chest" project those eons ago I would have never figured it would lead to future projects as well! When I originally thought of the idea of getting mappers a chance to showcase their stuff it was with mixed thoughts...I sure in the hell didn't know which direction it would go. Being a member of TeamTNT and having that chance to build and showcase my stuff was great, but there are some folks out there that would love to showcase their stuff as well...good or bad! Now, I'm not gonna sit here and take all the credit for the original project because it wasn't all me...the "community" here at Doomworld kicked in and made this project work! Yes, I started it, but the Doomworld community finished it good or bad, and that I am very proud of...thanks to all of you for taking this and making it what it is! My hats off to you! I'm glad that I could be a part of it, and I'm glad that I followed through on the idea...just look how far it's come! You guys rock!
  12. This is Cadman...I'm interested if you still have a slot available? Thanks!
  13. About 2 years ago I attempted to come back to Doom, then some very personal things came up in my life and I disappeared (again). I just wanted to apologize to everyone for all that! If you don't remember me then let me introduce myself again...

This is Cadman from a long time ago...some of you may remember me and some of you have no idea what the hell I'm talking about...:) Most of those personal things that have been happening in my life are all settled now and I just fired up the editor and started to work on some unfinished maps. I'm looking for your feedback on what you want in a map and what engine you prefer it be designed for. I am an "old schooler" of Doom and Doom2. Bring me up to date so I can try to complete a good map for you and your playing enjoyment.

I'll be reading forums and try to get back in the loop...thanks for keeping it going guys! You guys rock!

    New ZDoom map/project

Looks very good, has that "old school" style to it. Keep up the good work!
  15. Hello everyone in the Doom Community! I don't know if anyone remembers me from the good ole' days...:) This is Cadman, just wanted to say hi and see what's been going on in the community!

Been missing the gaming and the level designing of Doom and Doom2!

I've been having a lot of things going on in my life and have been very busy, it's been tough for me to continuing gaming, but I think I have some time now, things have settled down.

I've been looking on the forums and have seen that CC4 has come out! WOW!!! It's hard to believe that when I started the original Community Chest that it would go so far!

It would be good to hear from you, please post a reply and bring me back in the loop! Thanks everyone!

Odds of recreating a TNT team?

Well, I'm still around...a little older (not any wiser though). I still enjoy playing Doom...haven't had much time to actually work on my maps in progress. I have a 10 map project I'm working on (8 levels complete as of this writing), but being a single parent has made my time very restrictive...damnit! If I can't get the time to finish the last two levels then I'll extensively test the eight maps I have done so far and get them released to the community. I'm still a proud member of TeamTNT!

Kewl!! I'm just here to post my resentment of Doom Builder. Not really...just wanted to see how it sounded!
  18. To all here at the Doomworld forums, I just wanted to say hello and to make you aware of the following... About three months ago I started my own personal project...a 10 map project utilizing the Eternal Resources. this is my update to you, the Doom Community that I have been a part of since 1993. 6 Maps have been completed so far with 4 more maps to go. Texture alignments are being strictly adhered to. Careful thought is given to Monster placement. Weapon and ammo balance throughout the maps is closely monitored and adjusted as necessary during extensive playtesting. No "death traps"...pits you can't get out of etc. adjusting the light levels as needed to give the maps "ambience." When I finish the final map I will put out a call for playtesting for a limited number of Doomers before I release it to the Doom Community. I will be looking for critical feedback so I can possibly adjust and tweak the maps. These maps will be considered "old school" type of maps. I'm using DeepSea version 12.15 for this project. When I finish Map 9 then I will start to release a few screenshots. I'll keep you posted as progress is being made. Thanks for being there guys and gals and I hope you like it.

    My Personal Doom2 Project!

I'm about 30-35% done with map 7...I have a couple of days off now so more will get done. I do have a real life you know! Heh! My playtester found a few obvious errors in maps 3 and 5, so I need to go in and correct those issues. Overall it's looking good, but who knows? Hopefully the playability will be good. Just remember, Don't expect the fancy-schmacy stuff. Just very straight-forward mapping with some good fighting. Keep it going guys!

Time for a new video card

Just goes to show how old I am,,,hahahahahaha! Ya...it's 12 gigs! Back in those glory days (old days) 12 megs was alot of memory...heh. I was running a 486 processor with only 4 megs of ram back in 1993. Where's my walker when I need it!

Time for a new video card

I've always been a Nvidia fan since day one. ATI has some great stuff as well, just compare and get the card that best suits your particular needs. My base system at home is as follows... Intel Core i7 Processor 920 @ 2.67 12 gigs DDR3 Memory on the motherboard 1 Terabyte HD Two Nvidia GTX 480 cards with 1536 megs of GDDR5 on each card running in SLI mode. Windows Vista 64 bit Home Premium. Years ago under the old OS's my biggest bottleneck was always motherboard ram...I made a promise to myself to not allow that to happen again. I like playing all my games with all the bells & whistles running! Hence the video card setup.

    My Personal Doom2 Project!

At this moment I'm at 25% done with map 7. It's coming along. I spent about two hours this evening working on the map. I have a very close friend of mine that I've known since I started "Doomin'" back in 1993, is playtesting my maps 1-6. I'm getting some very useful feedback and I have some adjustments that need to be made, but it's coming along. I'm taking a break right now in mapping and I'm doing some playtesting this evening as well. Just wanted to keep everyone posted on the progress. Take care!

Have at it guys...I guess over the years I've just gotten feed up with all the slamming over this particular issue. There are very good points from everyone and I can respect that. Nothing gets solved though...it seems that the parties involved will not use the judicial system to resolve this because of the time and expense involved, that's understandable. Hopefully his financial support base for this product may wither and he may release the source tree, who knows? Either way, I'm through with it. Time for me to get back to mapping!! Take care guys! Hope to see you in a map somewhere!

Hey Mordeth...it'll never happen. Once the announcement was made about the update for Deepsea the floodgates opened. You and I both know as old time Doomers this will never stop...oh well. If people don't like Deep for one reason or another, let's see...Pay for an editor, old code, cluttered interface, ripoff, Deep just sucks then that's their issue. Me personally, I enjoy the DeepSea editor, very comfortable with it, and I find it very easy to use. There's nothing wrong with Doombuilder, I just prefer DeepSea. I believe enough is enough though...could I ask the Moderator to please close this thread? There are more than enough threads here at Doomworld about the "Editor Wars."
