I'm guessing at least someone has it but they don't fess up because of probably the chance of being accused as an accomplice or the shame of it You're telling me no one sent an email to him? That being said, it's a good thing that name is being used for something better

what would be your ideal "Modern AAA Doom" mechanics wise?
The Doommer replied to fruity lerlups's topic in Doom General Discussion
This 400 times. It's always bothered me that the classics were the only one that had this. I mean tbf the Cyberdemon was never the "make you shit yourself" boss after E2M8 Like all the other times you meet him you already have a fully loaded BFG But I also get this That being said, I suppose more of the Doom-style puzzles we had in the classics -
What, in you mind, is the definition of a "boomer shooter", both historically and among current releases?
The Doommer replied to johnboy3434's topic in Doom General Discussion
Wonder why they didn't just use the Doom engine for that. Well a modified version but yk... -

You know, these I just never really figured out if they had different meanings or if they just were there for the decorations Silly question, but might as well ask -

This is thankfully a lot more occurring these days. The only games I found to be still using a 2-weapon limit are Military shooters and CS/Valorant That would be 50s-60s An era where Computers were still an entire room Nah I'm pretty sure it's about the gameplay than the graphics Back in the early 2000s, yes Now, nope If only people stopped taking everything seriously... Yk how it goes. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. People kept buying COD no matter the dip in quality so It's only recently that it's getting so bad people are starting to realize it IMO Far as I noticed it's towards both Gen X and Boomers. It's probably also used as that but I don't think that's the entire story Wait Rise of the Triad was made with the Wolf3D engine?? I always figured it was something based on the Build engine -

Since this thread is open I might as well mention this issue too Whenever I select a sentence to quote, there's always a chance of the Quote selection button not appearing. It's weirdly common too -
If Doom Eternal were to ever get a Remake: What are some changes you would want/not want to see?
The Doommer replied to nathanB404's topic in Doom Eternal
All the sarcasm/jokes aside Imo the franchise that does need a fix is Wolfenstein I kinda wish id got the rights back and made a great Wolfenstein game instead of the last 2 messes we got -
The doom mods are canon, but not in the sense of all of them happening in the same universe. In one universe/timeline, this mess starts with Doom 3 and in the OG timeline Doom 1 is the beginning Think of it as the Marvel's earths

Did you kill him or not? (Spoilers for Doom Eternal)
The Doommer replied to DiceByte's topic in Doom Eternal
I always felt bad not to put him out of his misery, I mean he's clearly suffering. -
What's the difference between the difference sphere reactions?
The Doommer replied to The Doommer's topic in Everything Else
Did Garcia Marquez write that? Yup, seems to be the case. And apparently these questions are quite frequent by the looks of it -

Understandable annoyance Should have probably searched beforehand Meh I wasn't really trying to pick one, just understand the difference or the idea behind it -

Is using SAVES in Doom bad?
The Doommer replied to Downcologo one's topic in Doom General Discussion
Amateurs, try defusing a nuke Next Jigsaw game be like: "I want to play a game, you play Nightmare Plutonia on a PC attached to a double-barreled shotgun. If you die it will fire and kill you. Live or die, player, the choice is yours." -
I mean tbf the game is challenging enough to justify the need to have health drop from the enemies. Tho classic Doom also had a lot of placements for 1+ health items But yeah the exploration giving you more tools/items would have been a solid idea Bloodpunch was compensation for the normal punch not doing shit in DE And honestly, I don't see why having more tools to fight demons with is bad in DE Yeah Doom 1/2 only allowed you to use the chainsaw/punch mix as the one with effectively infinite ammo But stun-locking enemies with the chainsaw wasn't weak in the classics either (except in the boss fights) I mean you mentioned ammo management, so that was the response. I don't remember going low on all ammo in Classic Doom (I and II, Final Doom wasn't designed by id) even on UV You always had enough ammo to keep going unless you wasted it intentionally. Wolfenstein 3D on the other hand... The true final boss of Doom Most maps afaik will give you a BFG to deal with these beforehand The exception in the classics would be E2M8 Also Cyberdreams, oh god...

It means that social media is going in the "I don't like what you said, so you either remove it or we'll bully you" mentality Not everyone is like that obviously but still

id software heading to a galaxy far, far away for next game?
The Doommer replied to Buckshot's topic in Everything Else
Tbf id is still doing well even after the Carmack era (massive rare chances of this happening to old game devs) But yeah, imo SW is a shadow of its former self, and unless someone competent takes hold, it's not coming back to what it was Anyhow, not interested in the id game a lot, unless they can make it interesting enough. The issue isn't id IMO, the issue is that SW has been milked to death beyond it being something everyone loved. Meh, the Doom community will be fine. -

Whether you like the game or not that's your opinion and I respect that But let's not pull stuff like this. I kinda disagree. Regardless of the discussion about whether Doom 16 and Eternal are classic Doom or not Doom 3 leaned a lot on the horror element, which while classic Doom did have it a bit (the section in E1 where the lights turn off and you get jumped by imps comes to mind) it was never the focus. And Classic Doom while being puzzle-based did give you a map to understand where you were going. Unlike Doom 3 where some of the levels got pretty complicated with no map to help you find your way. That's a very fair argument. However, classic Doom also never leaned a lot on resource management. Except for the big guns like BFG/Plasma Rifle, the other types of ammo are pretty common. Yeah, pretty much my issue with takes like this. I can respect people not liking what I like. That's what opinions are, but when it comes down to personal attacks I feel like it's taken way too far.

Is using SAVES in Doom bad?
The Doommer replied to Downcologo one's topic in Doom General Discussion
I can't entirely agree with this. Altho this depends on the game. (Like a COD game doesn't make much sense with a save-everywhere feature), games that let you save anywhere you want allow you to explore your way of playing it much more than a checkpoint system (non-linear games would benefit a lot from this) I don't save on the IWADs (except Plutonia) unless I want to put the game aside. That being said, there's no reason not to save if you prefer to save. -
what was the firsrt doom game you played
The Doommer replied to coletomars32's topic in Doom General Discussion
Shareware Doom, then Doom 1, 2 while playing Doom 3 BFG I think I finished Doom 1,2 before Doom 3 BFG was done
